20 Southmead Reviews

We chose the accomodation for the space, enclosed garden and parking. Everything was as described, the area is very quiet, but has good dog walking fields nearby and a dog friendly pub. We needed the help of the caretaker to explain the heating and TV controls and the lady was extremely helpful. All the Northumberland attractions are within easy reach by car or the very good local busses.
We had a superb twoweek stay in this spacious bungalow and would definitely stay again. The property has a large, secure garden which was perfect for our dog, and the beds were extremely comfortable. There is parking for up to three cars, plus an integral garage which is ideal for storing bicycles and other equipment. Access is excellent, with a shallow paved ramp leading to the front door, making it particularly suitable for anyone who struggles with steps. The location is great, with the town centre and bus routes all within walking distance. The superfast Virgin broadband and TV package were excellent, and the hall cupboard was well stocked with plenty of fresh towels and bedding. It is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area, including Amble, Warkworth, Alnmouth, Seahouses, Holy Island, NewbigginbytheSea and Whitley Bay. A fantastic property in a convenient location, and one we would happily return to in the future.
The accommodation is well placed for the town, harbour and bus routes. We have stayed there a couple of times now and really enjoy the experience. The cottage is comfortable.
We very much enjoyed our stay again at Southmead. The owners & yourselves took a great deal of trouble to update us on the keycode very much appreciated. Welcome pack was thoughtful & standard of bungalow, all contents, garden etc very good. The only query for us see Facilities & Maintenance score was that bedrooms were colder than rest of rooms & we would suggest owners recheck those radiators, as they may require bleeding?? All in all, we really enjoyed Southmead & our dog loved the garden! Thank you All.

We had a great holiday at 20 Southmead and would happily return another time. The house was sunny, the hot water plentiful and the beds comfortable, with plenty of space to park the car on the drive. It was a 15 minute walk into the centre of Amble, with buses passing the end of the road.

We two retired couples travel from Cheshire to see family and friends in the northeast every spring fro a week, and Amble is well placed for us. We've stayed in a few different houses closer to the harbour, usually sleeping six or more for the extra bathshower flexibility but this is our first time at Southmead. Slightly further to walk to the harbour, around 15 minutes, but that's not a problem, and there's several ways to do that. There's a big Morrisons supermarket a few minutes' walk away with a petrol station, and a large modern familyoriented pub, The Amble Inn is also nearby. Southmead itself is a well presented bungalow on a large plot in a quiet culdesac with large gardens front and back, and outdoor decked area. There's space for at least two cars. It is light and airy, with a walkin shower off the biggest doublebed bedroom, a second room with two single beds, and a smaller third bedroom with a double bed. The separate bathroom has an electric shower over the bath. The kitchen is large and well equipped, with a washing machine and laundry sink area where you'll find spare loo rolls! in the huge garage. There's an excellent TV and very comfortable sofas in the living room, and very fast free wifi. The cost for the week was far less than we've paid this time of year for similar accommodation nearer the harbour. We initially chose Southmead because one of us now finds stairs difficult, but even if that isn't a consideration for potential visitors we fully recommend it. We'll certainly have it top of our list when we come up in 2027.

This was our 6th stay and have one booked for November. Handy for the bus etc. We love Amble as everyone is so friendly. We did have a bit of an issue this time where it would have been good to have a contact number as Sykes was closed but we managed in the end. The bungalow is well equipped and we always have a great time. Thank you.

Had everything you needed, ample car parking, large rear garden for dog to run around, well pleased with the rental
This is the second time we have visited this bungalow ,it is so peaceful and ... This is the second time we have visited this bungalow ,it is so peaceful and spotlessly clean and is equipped with every thing you need for a holiday
Such a lovely bungalow and well equipped We absolutely loved the peace and quiet. . The only downside i would say is the lack of privacy in the bedrooms, as there are no blinds or nets on the windows we spent the week with the curtains closed. I would definitely book again and recommend this bungalow to anyone. It's close enough to amenities and just far enough away for the peace and quiet. We didn't want to leave

20 Southmead was a lovely bungalow, but it was advertised for 6 person accommodation, it should have been advertised as a 5 person accommodation. It would be suitable if two of the party were young children. Our party consisted of 6 adults two over 70, two over 50 and our daughters aged 19 and 20. The property consisted of a king bed, twin beds and a very small double bed, the room with the small double was tiny. We had to buy a blow up bed and our oldest daughter slept in the living room. Not exactly what we thought we would be doing. This was the only issue with the property. The other facilities at 20 Southmead were great. The addition of a larger cooking pot to the property. The property was in a great location near The Amble Inn, supermarkets and a 10 minute walk into Amble. It was easy to drive to other locations, Warkworth was a few minutes along the coast same with Alnwick. An enjoyable holiday. The three stars is because of the size of the third bedroom.

It looked clean initially but thick fluff under the beds and cobwebs in corners of room is not acceptable. Greasy oven and extractor in kitchen, unusable sink in main bedroom, loose hot taps on sinks, dangerous loose trip hazards in back yard a driveway, incorrectly advertised for six adults and a faulty boiler the owner did fix this in 24 hours and a general lack of care and maintenance. The list goes on, to a property that appeared ideal at the start. For the money paid, we wont be back!
20 Southmead is a gem of a property. It was beautifully clean, the beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed for our stay. Host was fantastic. Highly recommended
We had an enjoyable holiday BUT we suggest attention to the following FridgeFreezer is very noisy as noted by previous visitors does anyone read the VISITORS BOOK? this issue mentioned several times!! A few extra pillows would have been welcomed. On our visit we picked up a newish booklet on Northumbria suggest a copy in the property.
The cottage is in a good position, within walking distance of the town and harbour. Bus stops near by and easy to get to the local and surrounding attractions. Plenty of room in the cottage, overall we had a really good stay.
Very pleased with the property, my sister in law has mobility problems but had no problems here. Close to Amble and all facilities would certainly return to this property. Everything you needed was supplied. Thank you.

Just back from 20 South mead. Really pleased with the house, comfy beds, good shower and great enclosed garden for our dog. Easy walking distance to Ambles shops and restaurants, so no worries about parking in Amble itself. Would definitely recommend
Was such an amazing place and Amble a wonderful town Beautiful bungalow warm and cosy and loads of room for everyone. Will definitely go back xx
Stephen
The property is well maintained well stocked with every amenity possible cleanliness was very good and the location is ideal. Not too close to the centre of Amble but close enough to walk. Morrisons is just round the corner and all in all well sighted property.
Comfortable property in a convenient location for some of Northumberland's attractions. Good secure garden for the dog. Thank you for leaving the biscuits and tea bags, really appreciated. You may wish to have a look at the front door letterbox. The wind gets behind it and it rattles which is a bit annoying in the middle of the night. Overall though, this is a good property for a holiday stay.
Warm and comfortable. .this was our third stay at Southmead and it was lovely to come back to.
Southmead is a spacious, comfy bungalow in a quiet cul de sac, very close to Amble. It has a well equipped kitchen and a super safe back garden. Its location is near to a supermarket and handy for a visit to Duridge Bay nature reserve. It is also very dog friendly and worthy of many visits.
This was a brilliant property extremely comfortable, clean & wellequipped. The enclosed garden was ideal for our dog and it was very convenient for Amble & surrounding areas. We have visited this area for many years, and this bungalow was the best ever! We shall certainly return.
Clean and tidy . Well equipped . Nice location . Plenty of parking space . Our only grumble would be to change the opening direction of the fridge door. Apart from that lovely a place .
Clifford
We enjoyed our stay at south mead owing to it being in a quiet residential area and has a good bus service close by which means you can still get to other places without the need to use the car if you wish to do so,the property is a modern build with all the facilities that you require for an enjoyable break. there is only one small criticism and that is we found settees a little on the firm side for us it just shows you cannot please all the people all of the time. yes we will book again in the future.
Carole
20 Southmead is a lovely well equipped house, perfect base to explore Northumberland.
Stephen
Our third visit to this property and not the last as we love it here. Great location and always feel really chilled out. It has plenty to offer and is always clean and welcoming. We usually park up for most of the week and jump on the bus to get about. Was going to look at staying later in the year again but may not be possible as it is already quite full.
Well located, nice and quiet, good parking. Comfortably furnished, bit lacking in detail on WIFI, how to use TV etc. Generally very clean, but both cutlery drawers needed a clean out, and previous occupants hadn't left plates and saucepans very clean. Top of the fridge needs a good clean! Overall very happy and would use the property again.
Anthony
Fantastic bungalow in a quiet cul de sac but close to a large pubrestaurant and major supermarket. Fantastic large Tv, excellent facilities and safe and secure enclosed garden. Comfy beds and sofas and excellent showers. Overall, a well maintained property with extensive well thought out facilities in a cracking location.
It was nice to return to this cosy and warm bungalow. .we enjoyed our stay..
Andrew
Bungalow larger than expected, but still very cosy and comfortable. Excellent location for local amenities and access to coastal walks and cycle routes. The large garage was a bonus for bike storage. Will definitely rebook in the future.
Rachael
We had a lovely stay at Southmead and the weather was quite kind to us. We did have a problem with the front door handlelock but reported this immediately to the owner who agreed to sort this out as soon as possible. The owner was very helpful. As we were leaving the following day this was not a problem to us. Only thing missing from this extremely well equipped property was a small sharp knife, other wise we could not fault this property and will hopefully be returning again in the future.
Stephen
Stayed here in April so decided to visit again. Really lovely place to stay as it is on a good bus route and has facilities close by. Lovely spacious property and I'm sure we will also book again next year. Many thanks
We really enjoyed our stay at 20 Southmead. It is in a quiet housing estate and the supermarket and petrol station are round the corner at the big roundabout. The property is all on one level and very light and airy. The outside decking was lovely to sit out on and the beds were all very comfy. Very well equipped with instructions books all provided and folder of useful information. A great base to view Northumberland!
We really enjoyed our stay which we used as a base for touring . Kitchen was well supplied. Rooms comfortable. Really liked having a separate lounge & dining area. However the second bedroom double was very small. We were able to access TV and few filns through Sky box but most of Netflix & Amazon was not available as needed account to pay.
Patricia
Spacious, very clean and tidy, well equipped, uncluttered and very quiet.
We had a lovely stay at 20 Southmead. The owners were very thoughtful regarding equipment for my 8 month old granddaughter. The lounge was very spacious as was the garden and it was very handy to be able to use the garage too. Although the kitchen had plenty of crockery for all of us there were a couple of things that I feel are a must for a self catering property. There was no bottle opener, grill pan or roasting tray. Although there were a couple of oven dishes it wasn't enough for cooking for 6. Also the mattress in the small bedroom really does need either replacing or a thick mattress topper needs to be added as my mum had a dreadful sleep in there until we turned the mattress.
