34 The Wharfage Reviews

Beverley
The accommodation was excellent. Had all the facilities you could want. Really comfy beds and nice areas for relaxing. Easy access to local facilities, shops, pubs, restaurants, local sites etc. The only down point and it is a very petty one, was that there was rubbish left in one of the bedroom drawers. The other thing that might have been useful was for a list of what rubbish went into what bin. I would certainly recommend this property though and would love to go back.
Great location, warm and comfortable house. Garden isnt that enclosed and house lacks a few basic things like teaspoons 2 a cafetiere and teapot, and the tv didnt work. After buying batteries for the remote which is temperamental we got there. We enjoyed our weekend these bits would make it easier on a short stay. Also the woodburner in the kitchen has a loose seal which makes it difficult to close the door.
I have delayed my review as I was waiting for feedback from Sykes from a formal complaint. They have assured me that my feedback has been passed to the owner. However my review is given on how we found the property at that time. We stayed as a large family group over New Year. Many of the issues are as already noted in other reviews. No welcome book, no instructions for cooker, bins etc. On arrival it was evident that the property had not been cleaned for us. There was a large ladybird infestation in 3 bedrooms that had to have been there some time. Thousands of ladybirds everywhere, we bought bug spray to try and get rid of them but ended up living with them for the rest of our stay. Carpets had not been cleaned. There were bits of black feather boa over the carpet in the ensuite bedroom, a gift bag under the bed and a pair of dusty black ladies panties in the dressing table draw. Cobwebs were at head height in most doors meaning walking through them. Washing had been left in the washing machine from previous guests. There was no rinse aid in the dishwasher meaning all the plates, cups etc, were not clean in the cupboards, so again we bought this to wash what we wanted to use. Kitchen floor and carpet was filthy and had definitely not been cleaned. There was a spider infestation in the ensuite bathroom window. I have rented many cottages from Sykes and have never encountered a property like this. I hope that the owner has received this information through Sykes and can rectify these issues. In the meantime I would book through Sykes again as no previous issues but I personally would not recommend this house.
Great house to rent in the centre of ironbridge. We had everything we needed, the house was clean and warm and the service and communication was perfect
34 The Wharfage is a pretty house, and exactly the right accommodation for us and our three adult children & partners. Very comfortable beds & sofas and warm with the heating on. The parking is actually in the gated area which was not clear from the description or instructions. We found this out from other reviews. The parking we were directed to was up a ridiculously steep & narrow road unsuitable for vehicles. The main road is noisy & the cottage is single glazed so that was a nuisance for us. Unfortunately the kitchen was not particularly clean and the dishwasher was ineffective. However Ironbridge is a lovely place & the cottage is perfectly situated to explore the area.
Accommodation was good and served as a good base for visiting the area. Being a period property it had some challenges as a number of our party are well over 6ft. The showers are a tight fight for anyone tall or bulky. Some areas could do with a touch of attention and we could not find any information pack so took best guesses with bins and how to leave the cottage bedding etc. For those wishing not to cook the cafe around the corner does a great selection of breakfast bap options which are sizeable.

34 The Wharfage was fine for our needs and we had a good holiday. We were surprised there was no information pack, instructions or local contact number at the property.
Overall , we had a lovely stay at the Wharfage. The location is great and the property was full of character. There were cleanliness issues , particularly in the kitchen fridge , oven , bin , coffee machine , dishwasher and fire hadnt been cleaned properly . There was also an unsteady chair in the kitchen which I can see has been reported on previous reviews. Lots of cobwebs everywhere which you expect in an old house but clearly some had been there for months . The front door is difficult to lock unlock and we couldnt find any key for the drive gates so couldnt close these fully to make the area dogsafe tried to ring Sykes several times but no answer. On initially parking we did get stopped by someone who advised abruptly and repeatedly that we could not park there until we explained we were actually renting the property! The property could be amazing and is lovely and comfortable but little issues need to be addressed
A lovely old cottage as described in a great location a short walk from Iron Bridge with beautiful walks from the doorstep. An oddly shaped house be prepared for lots of walking up and down. Be warned this house is on the main road and can be quite noise esp in the rooms upstairs with no secondary glazing we live on a main road in London and it kept us awake! There are also no decent curtains on the windows so expect an early wake up in summer. The ensuite room desperately needs a new mattress as its slopes badly in the middle. Some of these are an easy fix which would make this cottage brilliant. The owners were really helpful and checked in on us and immediately fixed an issue we raised.
Excellent! This is a beautiful, characterful & homely house with everything you need and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The bedrooms are all a good size with 2 that could be considered master bedrooms the one downstairs is beautifully furnished and extremely roomy, and one of the upstairs bedrooms is also roomy and has an ensuite. The other 2 upstairs bedrooms are also wellproportioned with another shared bathroom all suitable for adults. All 3 of the bathrooms have good sized, powerful showers with a choice of shower heads although my husband did find the door on one of them a bit of a squeeze to get through. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom were part of our criteria when booking as our party included my 91 yearold motherinlaw who has difficulty with stairs so these were ideal. We like to have a dining room also part of our search criteria but thought the stairs down to it might be a problem since there was no handrail, but my motherinlaw did not find these stairs a problem and we used it each evening we ate in. Some curtains in the dining room would have made it a bit more homely we could imagine the room being perfect for a Christmas dinner. The kitchen is wellequipped, with a large gas rangestyle cooker and the table in the kitchen was great for breakfast. We were unsure when we left what went where for recycling, but scanned the QR code on the bin and found the details easy to understand. The house was lovely and warm when we arrived, we found the heating very easy to adjust and the WiFi worked well which we needed as we had no cellular signal in the gorge. Although the front garden is fully enclosed our small dog could easily have run under the gates onto the road, but we had realised this from the pictures so we keep him on a lead while out. This was not a problem as he is getting old and was tired out from walking during the day. We loved Ironbridge and there was so much to do locally we couldn't fit it all in we only had one week so we may have to come back! Everyone we met was friendly and the dog was welcomed into so many places it made the whole experience easier to enjoy together. We wholly recommend this house and found it great value.
The location of the property couldn't be more perfect for exploring Ironbridge. There is plenty of room for a large family..The showers were sooo good!! There is a shop directly opposite for all those little things you forgot to pack. I was disappointed there was no information about the history of the building or any information about how to use the heating, which bin is which etc, and would highly recommend this as an addition in the future. What let the property down unfortunately was the lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. On the surface everything looked clean but the grill, had been left dirty by a previous guest and not cleaned, as was the right hand fan oven, where something had been spilt. The filter coffee machine, although empty had old coffee grounds on the inside of the lid and the coffee and sugar cannisters were also grotty. The dust pan was full. All small.things but these added up and it was a shame, as the bedrooms and bathrooms were fine. We also noticed fungus growing around the hearth and by the log basket in the lounge, which may need looking at. Some oven gloves for the oven would be useful. The TV had an interesting user name set up on one the accounts, which while we laughed about it, could possibly offend other guests. I did message the owners while we were at the property about the grill pan and oven etc but did not receive a response. I loved the property and our stay in Ironbridge. I think it could be amazing with a few tweaks. Definitely need bare feet or slippers upstairs as the beautiful, wonky flooring is slippy otherwise.
It Would have been helpful to have had, dishwasher tablets. More toilet rolls. Surface kitchen cleaner. Hand wash. Basic kitchen items like foil. We had to go and purchase all these items. The fridge wasnt clean when we arrived. Carver chair in dinning room was broken! Suggestion for the downstairs bathroom to have the glass door replaced with a solid door, due to lack of privacy. Over all though we enjoyed our time in your property and we all slept well !! Despite the road traffic
Richard
