47 Baxtergate Reviews

Monica
Nothing to mop up spills, no brush to sweep up and a vacuum cleaner that didn't work. Bathroom sinks were dirty and had to be cleaned. The refuge instructions are not clear. Dust on fire extinguisher and general not clean
Baxtergate was an excellent property very well equipped, spacious, clean, and tidy throughout. The location was perfect, right in the heart of Whitby. There was also plenty of free street parking just a 5minute walk up the hill. The only minor issue was that the keycode provided in the email was incorrect, but after calling the owner we quickly received the correct code and the matter was resolved within a couple of minutes. Many thanks to the owner for the prompt help. Highly recommended.

The house was not very clean and the main lounge had a very strong smell of wee leaving us unable to use that room.

Fantastic location and an amazing historic building. Few things missing only 6 forks for 8 people. No mattress or pillow protectors. No cleaning products leaving kitchen spray and bathroom spray for guests encourages them to clean up after themselves. I own 2 holiday lets The hoover is broken. The house needs a really good spring clean. Carpets stained badly in front room. Skirting boards and paintwork marked and covered in dirt and dust. Tile floor in hall and kitchen needs scrubbing, had to wear shoes inside as socks were very marked after walking on it. Edge of tiles in bathrooms covered in dust Cooker knobs and cookerhood covered in grease also the wall and tiles above the cooker. Dusty cobwebs in sitting room and kitchen Cracks in kitchen table design full of debris from past guests, very unhygienic. Downstairs toilet seat loose and floor covered in brick dust.
In general the property was well maintained and had good facitlities but there were a few areas where it could be better more cutlery for eating with, enough dishwasher tablets for the stay would be good, some bedside lights would be useful, some mattress and pillow protectors would be nice and the duvets need checking the one in my room was stained. There are still problems with the drainage in the first floor bathroom sink previous reviews have mentioned this. The location is great and it was possible to briefly stop after 4 pm to unload. We found free onstreet parking on Chubb Hill Road.

We had a lovely 4 nights stay and found the accommodation very clean, quite querky and reasonably comfortable. The sofa in the main living room was a bit difficult to get on and off. Very low. The lack of outside space was a bit of an issue as we like to sit outside a lot. It was very convenient for all the shops and parking was not a problem even though expensive. You can purchase a permit from the tourist information centre to make it a bit cheaper and to enable you to park anywhere in North Yorkshire. If you arrive after 4pm you can drive down Baxtergate to unload and also before 10am to load up before you leave. All in all we enjoyed our stay.
Excellent location, great size for our family, the fact there are two lounges was great given we have teenage children. Large kitchen with lots of seating to eat as a family We would recommend the accommodation

No mirrors in bedrooms

Great property , Im a great location , highly recommend

Was Almost perfect for what we needed, the only negative for us was the 77 it cost to park the car for the week. There was 4 adults and two young children in our party. One child is autistic so can be very noisy at times. The property was in a way ditached so it didnt upset anyone. Having a double bed and a twin bed room on the 1st floor and a mirror image on the second alowed the two kids to sleep on different floors so not winding each other up at night. To living rooms, each with a TV one on the ground floor and one on the third floor gave us, grandma and grandad a rest from kids. A toilet on all 4 floors brill. and unusually in Whitby these days Two sets of door keys. Not ideal if your after 5 star cottage, but great for a familly with kids

Very spacious accommodation, not a fan of the leather sofa in living room looked old and grubby, cushions were misshapen but didn't use very often. Kitchen would benefit from a deep clean especially the table. Beds very soft with memory foam mattresses, double bed bed on 1st floor needs attention, one of the end lats was built upside down so the mattress was lopsided. Noise from adjoining cottage 47a above kitchen at times. Entrance to cottages could do with tidying up and made to look a bit more appealing but is apparently owned by private residents next door, otherwise a very enjoyable stay and nothing that stopped us rebooking both cottages for next year to bring all the family.
Great location in Whitby. The bathrooms were good, shame no loo roll was provided. The kitchen was ok, not very well stocked for the size of the house and the worktops were sticky. The alley way to the property gives a very bad impression and could easily be made to look better. The lounge was very dirty and had cobwebs everywhere, it also had a very musty smell. I understand this is an old property but with a thorough cleaning would be a nicer place to stay.
We visited Baxtergate as a family and found the house was absolutely perfect for what we wanted. It was the ideal location minute walk to cafes, shops, pubs and seafront. This was brilliant for my father who struggles to walk great distances. The house was clean, comfortable, spacious and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Very nice house. Perfect location. Would stay there again. Ideal for big families with babies and dogs!
Great location and need to plan dropping off bags as its pedestrian only zone 10304pm and traffic starting 8am which is noisy. Shame we had to pay for parking at 10 per day. House is well maintained and everything you need for a great stay. Missed not having a bath as both bathrooms are shower only. Children enjoyed the top floor living space.
Lovely house, very comfortable, great facilities. Liked the arcade console. Very good location to explore Whitby.
Second stay, just as good as the first. This time two parking permits were provided which was an added extra.
Victoria
Nice large house, lots of space and very well centred. Entrance to the property could do with sprucing up abit, was not very welcoming. But on the whole very good, would definetely go back
Great house loads of room, but so noisy at night music from the pub and people ... Great house loads of room, but so noisy at night music from the pub and people drunk leaving the pub shouting at midnight, sorry would not use again
Could do with instructions for oven utherwise very good
Matthew
Lovely place, very clean & great positioning. Only downside is its a little noisy when the pubs kick out.
Nice house, great location. Would recommend. Agree with other feedback re lack of mirrors in bedrooms and windows are fairly thin.
Jacqueline
Great location and size . Only negative was the mattresses was so soft . Overall a great place . Will def be back
What a great place in a great location. Will certainly plan to return, the whole family loved it, including the dogs.
The cottage was spacious & ideal for our family of 9 including two babies. Very practical & convenient & would definitely recommend & stay here again. Thank you.

Only one set off keys. No mirrow in bedrooms.will be booking again soon.

The cottage could be really nice if they installed secondary glazing as the noise from the street is unbearable to enable sleep, also during summer the duvets need swapping for a lower tog, too hot and nothing to replace with, the ginnel was filthy and smelled, needs some tlc, ckeaning, a few planters in etc
Stayed here for 3 nights with freinds and the property was hugely spacious. Had everything you needed and was in an excellent location. 5 pubs, shops, butchers, cafes and bakery all in less than a 2 minute walk. Would definitely come back and stay here again when visiting Whitby.
Really good central location, had a great time
Deborah
This cottage has been completely refurbished to a very high standard. Fantastic location car parking nearby at 9 per night. Fully equipped with everything you would need for your stay including lots of cutlery and colander lol. The only thing I would say if I needed to put a negative is the double beds are very small. Highly recommended
The property is very spacious and warm and great family accomadation. It is nicely furnished with very comfortable beds ... Four toilets, one on each floor is very convenient. But...... There is no parking, it cost myself and my daughter 10 per 24 hrs to park in nearby car parks. There is no outside space. There is little ventilation, most of the windows do not open. The kitchen needs more equipment, eg, no chopping board, peeler, cleaning materials, serving dishes, mixing bowl, whisk, colander, place mats... There are no mirrors other than a small one in each bathroom. There is only one entrance, the front door, the property is over four floors,I was a little nervous about means of escape, though there were fire extinguishers.
