Barnacre Reviews

We have had an amazing weekend staying at Barnacre cottage beautiful inside and out the only complaint was no welcome pack on arrival I booked with Skye's cottasge in 2023 at seahouses and we received a lovely welcome pack which was a lovely touch but apart from that it was fantastic I would definitely recommend to use this site if youre looking to book a get away with friends and family.

Barnacre is a lovely large house that kept 9 of us comfortable for a family weekend. The dining table easily seated us all and the 4 bathroom enabled is all privacy and convenience. The pool room was fab. Lots of TVs so no issues over what to watch and lots of board games were available. Only negative really was the kitchen. No baking trays for the oven though there was some oven proof dishes. Would have been helpful to have some oven gloves available. It was fortunate that we took tea towels, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and surface wipes. Overall an enjoyable stay for our family and would stay again
Philip
A comfortable and spacious house which provided lots of space for a group of 7 people. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable. It has 2 large lounges, we didn't use the second one. Our only issue was the kitchen. It's generally well equipped but small for cooking meals for a group this size.
Barnacre was easy to find and in a nice location. The property was fantastic, with brilliant bedrooms, plenty of toilets, and multiple sitting rooms. Dining was a joy too. The secret room was a fun feature, and the property was well stocked. It is also a good location for getting around. The only negative for us was that we would not describe this property as petfriendly. Pets are not allowed to be left unattended in the property, and there was no mention of this. There were also other animals wandering around the garden, including ducks, cats, and other dogs. Being on a main road, the gate offers no real security. As a result, we were unable to go out for dinner as we could not leave our pets. This is the first time we have experienced this issue in a holiday property, so it is something to bear in mind before booking. Apart from the pet issue, this property would have been 10 out of 10 for us.

Fabulous bedrooms, lounges and secret room such a good idea. Good layout with ability to sleep 11. The kitchen was small and dated and needs an overhaul, the crockery, glasses and cutlery were excellent and well stocked. One negative is that we were unable to use the main shower room due to infestation of woodlice which kept reappearing, they also appeared in the main lounge, informed the owner that it needed to be treated and dealt with. Location was good for Morpeth, Alnwick and Newcastle area.

Lovely location with shops etc within a few miles. The layout of the building allows for privacy if there is a large party, which this is aimed at. The facilities are more than adequate, if a little dated in places. The secret room is a nice touch. Finding the entrance to the property in the dark and rain, for the first time, was a nightmare, unfortunately the owners can't legislate for the cars parked opposite and the inconsiderate speed of some passing traffic. Overall, a great location, lovely accommodation and excellent value for money.
Lovely place. Plenty of room for our family, children & grandchildren. Celebrating my birthday. Everything we needed. Kitchen well stocked. Bedrooms perfect space for all right down to our baby twins in cots. Lovely little court yard to let the dog out first thing. Be nice in summer to sit out there

We loved the accommodation and surroundings. All the rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. We could all sit comfortably around the dining table and in the sitting room we were 10 The kids loved the hidden room. We had a great time and would recommend without hesitation.
We have had a fantastic holiday at Barnacre, with three generations of our family aged from 8 to over 70. The cottage is wonderful superb spacious and very comfortable accommodation with numerous seating and entertainment areas in a fabulous layout. The facilities and equipment are superb. We have stayed in lots of holiday cottages over the years and this one was outstanding!
Lesley
Excellent stay in a beautiful property. It exceeded our expectations! Bedrooms are spacious and the whole house is beautifully furnished. The kitchen has everything you need to entertain and the areas to relax in are cosy and comfortable. Would love to stay again!

Was a great property lots of room, great size bathrooms, only thing i would add is, this is a great property for anyone with mobility issues, but soo much room in the bathrooms a few shower stools would be a great addition. We had to use our portable commode to shower family members that cant stand for long. Leave instructions for heating, it may be set to owners requirements but coming on at midnight on the first night and not replying to our voicemails for support, with a nearly 90 year old is not great. We had to try get it working, one side of the house was boiling or side cold then it would swap. And no logs like it said in the write up. Loved the secret play room, and the dinning room was a great size to fit us all round. Lots of great spots for hide and seek. No windows in most of the bedrooms only sliding door which lead to a communal courtyard so not safe with kids or pets to open at night. All in all lovely chilled with a honest review for anyone with mobility issues. A lot of walking around the building.

The property was excellent and a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. The property was clean, well decorated, sapcious, comfortable and well equipped. I would definitely stay here again. The property is perfect for large groups. The secret games room made the holiday for the younger members of our party!.
The property is great with superb accommodation for 10. However it could do with a deep clean particularly in the kitchen. In common with a lot of self catering properties the kitchen gets used but not really cleaned between lettings. The oven didnt get hot theres something wrong as we couldnt even cook pizzas. The microwave is a bit small for a 10 person property. The other thing was the kitchen tap gets very hot and needs a clear warning. I slightly scalded my hands on the hot setting. I was not using the Quooker boiling water facility. The property is spacious, well equipped and the children enjoyed the pool table.
Claire
A nice, comfortable stay in a well located and well equipped large property. Very helpful, quick acting owners. Plenty of space. The bathrooms look very new. As did the laminate flooring. The kitchen is well equipped. Lovely Denby crockery. 2 lounges with Sky TV in one. And a billiard table in the secret room for evening competitive action! Some flooring and decor is a little tired, but perfectly fine for a week's stay. As with other cottages we've used, the cleaners forget to look up or under! Whilst this might be picky, it did detract from the overall cleanliness. This is so easily rectified too! We would stay again, if back in the North East.
Louise
We had a lovely stay at barnacre. Very comfortable beds. We loved the big living room & hidden games room was a big hit with everyone. Our only negative feedback would be the kitchen, particularly the oven being small for the size of the property & not working very well. We were cooking for 11 people each night of our stay & it took 34 times the usual cooking times to cook anything. All the heat seemed to come into the kitchen, making the room very hot but not the food!

Barnacre and its neighboring property, The Granary are our favorite places to stay when we visit from the States each year. The properties together give us plenty of room for our large and evergrowing family. Barnacre has everything we need, plenty of rooms for us to spread out or hang out together, a beautiful little outdoor courtyard and a large front garden where the kids like to run around. The location is fabulous, a quiet little village. It is near Morpeth where you will find most of the shops you need and also close to beautiful Northumbrian beaches, castles and other attractions. There are plenty of options for eating out, we just found a new one this year, The Courtyard in Pegswood, a 3 minute drive, I highly recommend. We also cook a lot ourselves and love that there is a lot of beautiful dinnerware provided. Plenty of serving dishes too. I say it every year, it is like our home away from home.
This is the 2nd time weve stayed in the property in 18 months. The property has everything you could ask for, very clean and comfortable. Easy access to to surrounding areas Newbiggin, Blyth, Morpeth, South Shields, Newcastle. Well definitely be looking into booking again in the future.
Cristina
I wish you had contacted me. After you left I found that the batteries had gone flat in the thermostat control unit so the heating did not come on in the bedrooms. You had my contact number so I cant understand why you didnt tell me you were cold
We had a fantastic week at Barnacre the house exceeded our expectations. The pool table was a great addition and it was lovely to see my son learn a new game and get so much better as the week progressed. The location is fantastic with some lovely country walks on the doorstep and a short drive into Morpeth and my favourite beach at Cresswell. The hosts were very quick to respond to messages when we needed help with the sky package. We are already planning a return visit! Thank you for such a fantastic week.
Sandra
We had a lovely stay at Barnacre with our children & grandchildren. The house provided everything that we needed, our only gripe being the kitchen is on the small side, however the rest of the house is very spacious. The house was ideal for our 3 small grandchildren as it was all on one level and they enjoyed playing in the garden.
Christine
First time staying here. We loved it. Lots of space. Lovely bedrooms.
Graham
Lovely house, kids loved running round and the secret games room. Few down sides, very creaky floorboards and woodlouse infestation.
Lawrence
We have been to many cottages over the last 20 years this has to be rated the best Well done BARNACRE
Deborah
Another fabulous stay at Barnacre. We love the property and the location. Plenty of room for our large family and we book the adjoining property The Granary so that our friends can come to stay too. We had our young grandchildren with us this year and found that being on one level so convenient and safe for them. They too now love the house and will no doubt look forward to our visits there as much as we do.
Michael
Well laid out, well thought out, well kitted out. ...sky sports TV a major plus... . Our third visit.......4th time this October.. Highly recommended!
You get what they promise and they promise what you get
This was the perfect house for a family get together. Everyone had plenty of space and single storey living worked well with small children.
We had an amazing stay the cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed to keep 4 generations comfortable. Easy access to surrounding areas and also a bus stop straight outside.
Everything was perfect. Its a beautiful spacious property and very comfortable and clean. Bedrooms are large and en suite and lovely walk in showers. Its in a quiet peaceful village and easy to access Northumberlands coastline and visitor attractions. The only slight disadvantage it has is the small kitchen. Not room for more than 4 to sit at a table in a compact space. It also meant a walk down a corridor to carry meals down to the dining room. But overall a 5 star property..
Andrew
Excellent comfortable property with something for everyone. Well equipped although the oven is a bit tired and struggled to get to temperature.
Excellent accommodation Excellent location Accommodated our family perfectly, plenty of room and private space for everyone.
A beautiful property with plenty of room to spread out Everything was perfect with lovely personal touches. The kitchen was well equipped, the bedding luxurious and having good internet connection and Sky TV was a bonus. The weather was awful all week so we couldn't make use of the lovely outside space. We would love to come back to this amazing property, hopefully in better weather, as Northumberland is our go to place for a summer break.
Lovely for quiet holiday but still got plenty to do if you are more active, plenty room to rest in, garden is lovely, enjoyed every moment, loved the secret room.
Deborah
We had a fabulous week once again in this property, we have stayed there a few times before and it is always our goto when back in the UK to visit with friends and family. This time we really enjoyed being able to make use of the courtyard to sit out to eat during the perfect summer weather. I love this property, it really feels like our home away from home.
Very spacious accommodation. Easily fit in family of 10. Could perhaps do with an extra recycling bin

Barnacre is a fantastic property plenty of space for a big family with 2 lounges ... Barnacre is a fantastic property plenty of space for a big family with 2 lounges to relax in and all the bedrooms except one had Televisions in, and the secret room with the pool table was amazing and kept the kids and adults occupied in the evenings, the gardens were large and safe for the kids to run about in, we even had a game of rounders one night, highly recommend and the owner was lovely, we would go back

We had a fabulous weekend stay at Barnacre. The cottage was comfortable, clean and child friendly. Beds were extremely comfortable, rooms spacious apart from kitchen but a large dining area made up for this. Only small problem was the large fridge had a puddle on the floor from the freezer side which I reported after leaving. There's a private outdoor area and a spacious area at the front also. We enjoyed nearby Cresswell beach and Morpeth Coronation Fair day nearby. Thanks for a great weekend. We will definitely return.
Very comfortable, warm and convenient spot for local attractions. The facilities and layout of the property worked well for the three families with five young children.
Absolutely fantastic.
