Coupling Cottage Reviews

Was really nice place had everything you needed, nice view and garden, and trains werent a issue for me. Hottub roof seems abit low quality and the pavola covering the hottub needs some maintenance as it wont cover the full hottub space so rain can get in. i wish i knew there was a freezer day one, its in the lobby hole on the ground floor if you need to know. also whenever we had the outside lights turned on the circuit would cut out so we had to flick the switch on the electric board atleast 7 times until we had enough of doing this and just left the outside fairy lights turned off at the outside of the kitchen wall These are minor issues to what is a lovely quiet cosy home and id recommend for anyone to visit.

This cottage is fabulous so cosy and comfortable. The bed in the main bedroom felt like sleeping in a big fluffy cloud and the hot tub and wood burner were dreamy we didn't wan't to leave! It's a perfect base for exploring the Peak District, and Belper itself just a few minutes walk away is lovely too full of independent coffee shops and great places to eat. If you're looking to get away from it all and come away feeling relaxed and refreshed, this cottage will not disappoint!
Pauline
Beautiful cottage . Everything you needed and more. The bedrooms were amazing and the beds so comfortable . Not for those who struggle with stairs especially for the toilet during the night 2 flights .. close to the town center..parking space id say for a small car..

What a wonderful four nights we had at Coupling Cottage, 27th 30th November 2025, with our 9 year old cockapoo. The cosy cottage certainly did not disappoint, with a fantastic hot tub and log burner, perfect for a winter break. The cottage was clean and welcoming with lovely Christmas decorations throughout and all the equipment needed for our stay. Thank you for the chilled bottle of wine in the fridge! The cobbled street that the cottage is situated on is slightly hair raising, especially as we have a large car but it all adds to the character of the cottage, as does the background sound of trains passing by. The four poster bed was super comfy and pure luxury with amazing bedding. Would not recommend for the elderly or disabled due to the stairs to the middle and top floor bedrooms, with the bathroom located on the ground floor. However, we would definitely return in the future if we are needing accommodation in the Derbyshire area. The garden is a great size which could be enjoyed if holidaying in the spring or summer.

We had a lovely weekend stay at Coupling Cottage! The house is decorated beautifully and there's lots of amazing artwork around the house with so much attention to detail. All the facilities were as described although we didn't find the freezer until we were leaving. The hot tub was a lovely treat in the cold evenings. The four poster bed on the top floor was super comfy! The trains are regularly going past but we didn't find them disturbing in any way. The allocated parking space wasnt accessible to us as neighbours seemed to either parked across it or in it. However we still managed to park outside on the street so it wasn't as issue.

The property was not very clean, including the crockery and cutlery which has to be washed prior to using them. There was also dog muck in the garden, I picked up one but left the other three, I did of course clean up after my dog. Whilst I was aware that the property was right next to the rail line, I did not expect fast trains going until after midnight. Some trains caused the windows to rattle. I was not expecting the gardener as I was not informed so got a fright to see a man attempting to get into the back garden, my dog was going crazy, only due to the 2nd gate being locked did he knock on the door and explain who he was. No issue with him coming but had I known I would not have been as scared. The vacuum cleaner was dismantled and I couldn't figure out how to put it together again to hoover up, which was needed when I arrived. The only way to contact the owner was via Sykes Cottages and despite attempts to contact the booking agent, I've not had a response.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coupling Cottage. The house itself is a delight, with plenty of space and separate nooks so the four of us were not on top of each other. My husband and I particularly appreciated the 'Waiting Room' in the garden what a lovely spot to sit and eat breakfast or drink a nice quiet cup of tea. The bedrooms were spacious, and the main bed was quite possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! The train line was not bothersome in the slightest, even though we had the windows open all the time we were at the cottage. My only issues were the lack of plates could definitely do with more than one each as it's a pain having to keep constantly washing up, and the long trip to the toilet if you need to go in the night although I appreciate that that can't be helped but worth bearing in mind for people with a frequent need to go as the only toilet is on the ground floor and the main bedroom on the second. Overall, a really lovely place, in a wonderful location. We would definitely stay at Coupling Cottage again if the opportunity arises!

Second time we've stayed here and weren't disappointed. Beautiful cottage with huge garden for the dog. Easy access to shopspubs. Will definitely be back!
Great location with plenty to do in the local area Nice cottage tasteful decorated with great facilities. Could do with some more glasses, small tumblers would be great.
Yvonne
Cottage in a great location, central to shops, cafes, pubs, gardens, off road parking, regular bus service if you dont want to drive but still want to explore other towns. We were lucky with good weather so used the garden quite a lot, loads of seating areas so catering for sun worshipers and those that prefer shade. It is right next to a busy train line, but is fenced off so doesnt directly look over when in garden, waited for train to pass to carry on conversation. Road itself very quiet, very limited traffic. A thicker curtain in the main master bedroom would provide more privacy on the evening when you put the light on and reduce the morning light coming through. But nothing that ruined our stay
The cottage is lovely and we had a wonderful holiday. Brilliant location, on a gorgeous cobbled street in a heritage site, close to shops, pubs, restaurants. There is loads to do in the area and the surrounding country side is stunning. The cottage is toughtfully decorated and comfortable throughout. Beautiful garden, which is a suntrap, it was sunny all week and the garden had sun all day. Some instructions could have been better as some things didn't work No PH strips for the hot tub as noted in the instructions. We were unable to work the festoon lights, says to switch them on in the waiting room, a big extension says 'plug lights in here', but there was nothing to plug in. A mop for the bathroom would be useful as the shower water does escape. But these things were not a big deal and certainly didn't impact the holiday by any means. Overall a brilliant holiday in a lovely cottage and great area.
Dianne
Beautiful cottage, will definitely visit again, our French bulldog loved the large garden and we all loved the hot tub. Great position really close to town, visited the Devonshire Arms for tea definitely recommend, as well as a short drive to the Bulls Head in Belper for Sunday lunch also definitely recommend overall a lovely weekend away, thank you x
The cottage is dirty and in a state of disrepair the sofa is propped up with sheets of sponge, grease inside the cooker, thick dust everywhere. It is truly not like the pictures at all and needs a clean, a lick of paint and a new sofa! The list could go on and on. The noise from the railway is something to consider too. The fence in the garden is not dog safe and the gap in the fence leads directly to into the rail track. Overall we spent a week staying out of the cottage there is no relaxing or comfort to be had!!

Fantastic stay

A stunning cottage with everything we needed , Excellent location near to pubs and restaurants , The cottage was beautifully decorated for Christmas too .

We stayed at Coupling Cottage for a week in November 2024 and it was a cosy and scenic stay. We took our dog who loved the big back garden and local walks. The cottage's living room was lovely with the log burner and very comfortable arm chairs and sofa. Ambient lighting was nice in the evening too. The kitchen has everything you need and we made use of the washing machine too which was helpful. The cooker is a Range master which was a treat, and it cooked very well. The little dining area had a moody vibe and was good to eat and play card and board games in. Bottle of wine upon arrival was great and the hot tub was easy to use and absolutely perfection to relax in!! There's also a utility room which is useful for shoes and coats as there isn't a hallway. The train line is directly next to the cottage and trains frequently zoom past, however it wasn't a disturbance at all really. The cottage has 2 spacious rooms and the top floor is the master and the bed is 100 the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We slept so well all week and it was decorated lovely. The best bed ever!! There is a little out house at the bottom of the garden which was a bit too cold to sit in this time of year but was fully decorated with comfy seating and a coffee table. I can imagine it's great in the summer! The cottage looks onto the mill that is a historical feature of Belper and is a grand building to look onto. The town itself has everything you need and we went to The Devonshire pub, which was absolutely gorgeous, highly recommend and dog friendly too! We visited Matlock for a day and this was a nice day out where most shops are also dog friendly. We really enjoyed Coupling Cottage, it was just what we needed and was a cosy time to come. I can imagine it's fantastic in the summer with the huge garden and hot tub too! Thanks so much. Charlotte, James and Poppy the dog.
A lovely cottage near pubs, restaurants and lovely walks . Hot tub and real fire helped create a lovely feeling and atmosphere. The owners were amazing and helped us with facilities. Only issue was bathroom is two floors down from the main bedroom .

This was our first cottage that we have stayed in and it did not disappoint. We booked it for my wifes 40th and myself and family were overwhelmed with how homely it felt. The rooms were spotless and the garden is extremely well kept. We had a perfect sunset from the garden and relaxed it the hot tub which is in a private area. The snug at the bottom of the garden is a nice touch and my two young girls saw it as their den. The location is great and within walking distance of everything we needed. The owner kept us informed of everything and we could not recommend this any higher. Thank you again! Tom. Peterborough

Lovely stay at Coupling Cottage. Favourite parts of the stay were the hot tub super clean, large and comfortable, the decor really lovely and location was good for walking into the village. Comfortable beds. Huge garden space for the dog. The local pub The Devonshire was outstanding. Least favourite parts were the noisy train track right beside the garden although kids enjoyed watching the trains!, the cobbled bumpy narrow road to the cottage some huge pot holes so be careful. We couldnt use the parking space for the whole duration of our trip as someone had parked half across it but this didnt matter as we parked on the cobbled road. I didnt find the sofa comfortable as you kind of sink right into it and the base cushions slide off also too many fluffy cushions! But really that is not a big deal personal preference and we had a super lovely time. Thank you for the bottle of wine too. It was appreciated. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
Claire
Property was lovely. Just as described. The neighbours were very welcoming. Hot tub was great and the garden really well maintained. We had a lovely stay.

Fabulous property had everything we could possibly need and more, owner was very ... Fabulous property had everything we could possibly need and more, owner was very helpful Central to all activities and plenty of amenities will definitely be back

We had a fabulous week in Coupling Cottage. It contained all the amenities we could possibly want. The garden and hot tub were fantastic and that was where we spent most of our time. We had a week of no TV with two teenagers amongst our group!! The cottage is so perfectly located for access to excellent pubsrestaurants, shops and dog walks. Claire was amazing, going above and beyond when we had a break down on our journey. She went to the cottage to receive a preordered shopping delivery which she also stored away for us. We would stay here again. Our only gripe is the fact that Sykes failed to share details of how to gain access to the cottage until an hour after we were there! Again, thank goodness for Claire and her quick response to messagescalls.
What a fantastic find, this old mill workers cottage was just perfect. It had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were super comfy and everything was nice and clean. We loved the garden space and the hot tub and spent most evenings enjoying both. The cottage is located a short work from rhe town, which had everything you needed for your stay. It's in a fab location and is a short drive from lots of local attractions and walks. Be aware its on a very bumpy cobbled street, just take it slow in your car. We loved the history of the street a d the fact it's a conservation area so the cottage had original windows and frontage. Just perfect.
We had a fantastic holiday at Coupling Cotrage, the location was brilliant and the hot tub was a great bonus. Instructions were all laid out for us, and everything you needed was supplied. The location to nearby pubs and shops was brilliant, and the food in the Devonish pub is a definite must ! Claire checked to make sure we had everything we needed, would highly recommend!

We had such a lovely time! !! Claire was so attentive, checking up on us via messages throughout the week. The property was really clean and comfortable. Decor was lovely. It had the essentials but thats all you really need! The ONE thing I wish Id have known was that its right next to above a frequently used rail track. With the windows being thin you could hear the trains throughout the day and going into the night which for us was a little troubling because we are light sleepers! One of the nights we were abruptly woken up at 2.30am by people doing work on the railway some kind of chainsaw drills going off for about 2 hours. The reason I didnt mark the review down a star was because I know Claire cant control the railway! However if youre easily woken up in the night maybe this place isnt for you? The railway could be quite disruptive. But if youre out like a light you should have no problems Id stay again but next time well all bring earplugs!D Thanks Claire for letting us stay in your lovely cottage
Had a lovely 4 days a Coupling Cottage and enjoyed using it's facilities. Really liked the Outside space and of course the hot tub. Our French Bulldog also settled in very quickly! Took us a while to establish where the freezer was. Obviously vehicle access is tight and the bumpy road needed some care, but nevertheless not a problem. Enjoyed the town and it's facilities. We felt no need to travel anywhere during the course of a relatively short stay.

Coupling Cottage was exactly as advertised. Very clean and tidy. Quick response to messages. Will be recommending a stay here to anyone looking for a cottagehot tub break.

A charming property in a lovely town . Our two dogs loved the large garden. We loved the hot tub! Main bed so comfy and the lounge very cosy.
This was such a lovely getaway and just what we needed thank you so much for such a lovely stay.
This is our second visit to Coupling cottage. Its a true pleasure staying at a charming cottage in close proximity of the town of Belper. I must say it exceeded all expectations for the second time. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard with lovely and unique decor. Claire the owner has impeccable taste that shines through in every detail, from the carefully selected furnishings, and accessories which add the perfect finishing touches to all the rooms. The comfort of the sofa and bed were truly exceptional, providing a cosy retreat after a long day exploring the picturesque surrounds of the Peak District. One of the highlights of my stay was indulging in the many charming places to eat and drink all within walking distance. Also nothing beats returning to the cottage and sinking into the soothing waters of the hot tub. It was the perfect way to soothe tired muscles and unwind amidst the cottage garden. Thank you Claire for a very enjoyable holiday and for the bottle of red wine. We will be back.

Coupling Cottage is the perfect base for exploring the area, so close to town, whilst being comfortable and completely private! The decor is fantastic and the paintings by Claire the owner dotted around show why, she has a fantastic eye! We loved the log burner, the sofa is comfortable unlike most places we have stayed in! the bed is very comfortable too. The garden is huge and the hot tub a lovely, private place to unwind after a long walk. We recommend making the 34 mile walk can get bus too to nearby Makeney, to The Holly Bush Inn a traditional 17th century Inn with fantastic food and great beers! Its won awards and we see why! There a lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants in town too! The Devonshire, as others have said is a good one. Everything is dog friendly which is fabulous! There a lots of lovely walks from the doorstep and it really felt like stepping back in time. The cobbled street and history of the cottages on the street is fascinating too. Thank you Claire
Enjoyed our weeks stay, the cottage is brimming full of character, charm and history.
Elaine
Lovely property, brilliant communication. Fantastic location
The cottage has been beautifully done out, great attention to detail. The main bedroom is amazing with its princess bed. Claire the host was friendly and helpful, especially as we were there during Storm Pia! Lovely hot tub to soak away the days walking, garden is lovely although we didn't use it much in December! It may be worth noting that the property is right next to a busy train line in the listing. It didn't bother us much but some may find it noisy. We will definitely return in the future
This cottage looks as it did on the website and would have been a dream stay sadly we had multiple issues which meant we couldnt enjoy our stay as hoped. I did report all the issues and trust that the lovely owner had no idea about them but I cannot give the feedback Id planned. Had to buy items to use the hot tub area as their exterior lights kept tripping I had a very nasty fall trying to resolve the issues as I was completely in the dark. I feel for the next guests as the owners could not get the work booked due to it being a busy time of year. Our shower also was a huge disappointment it leaked out of the back all over the tiles onto the floor owners did come and quickly try to fix but this issue returned. Be aware of the slippery decking winter time The cottage was beautiful and Claire has excellent taste it was idealic in that respect. The area is beautiful and the cottage its self is in a great location with everything in walking distance super friendly locals. The kitchen is modern in design but be aware not great for food storage if you plan to eat in all the time. Front room is so cosy the fact they had decorated for Christmas was a lovely gesture. Sadly when we arrived the Prosecco & Chocolates all previous guests had raved about where not there. Claire did apologise and we did get a bottle of Bucks Fizz and some wine, however it did feel a bit of a let down especially given we had to report so many issues. I want to leave a review that doesnt just highlight the low points but ends on a positive. Claire and her Husband really did try to assist with the issues at the cottage sadly we were just unlucky that no one had reported them in time for our stay. Fantastic little home away from home once the hot tub area gets some well needed attention and safety improvements. It was frustrating having to fork out money on top of the weeks rent in order to be able to use the hot tub and enjoy it. We have left the owners our feedback privately. All in all stunting place great location too many great pubs and places to eat that we decided not to cook in the cottage as planned but treat ourselves Nourish the Devonshire and the Chinese at the bottom of the road to cottage are all excellent. The owners put a lot of effort into the decoration of the place and did provide us with additional wood as a peace offering.
Fantasy cottage in a great location perfect for relaxing.
Samantha
A beautiful week away for our minimoon. Cottage had everything you could need and the hot tub was a bonus for the cold evenings. Plenty of places to eat and a good central location for everything you would need. Bed was very comfy. Winnie the Frenchie also had a very nice time and her favourite place was next to the fire in the evenings.
