About Grizedale

Located on a small Country Estate, just above the shores of Coniston Water, at the heart of the Lake District, this traditional Lakeland attached cottage shares a courtyard with 4 other delightful holiday homes. With extensive shared gardens and grounds and direct access to the estates private lake shore, Grizedale Cottage makes an ideal base from which to enjoy a wonderful holiday. This spectacular area has welcomed and inspired many renowned guests including Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome (author of ‘Swallows and Amazons’), Tennyson, the Victorian Poet Laureate and the painter William Turner. The awe-inspiring scenery of idyllic Coniston Water with its backdrop of the rugged Coniston Old Man mountain range will make any stay extra special. A real treat for the adventurous, this lovely holiday home is ideally placed for all the attractions and outdoor activities on offer in this glorious corner of the UK but is equally perfect for those who just want to soak up the peace and quiet and relax. Only a short distance from the Western edge of Grizedale Forest (this cottages namesake), miles of walking and cycling trails are yours to explore. Enjoy your favourite water sports on magical Coniston Water where Donald Campbell made his water speed record attempts in the famous ‘Bluebird’. Coniston village is just over a mile away and offers a range of outdoor activity providers, shops, pubs, cafes and a highly rated Bistro. The Boating Centre is a great place from which to hire boats, take boat trips on the famous Gondola (a Victorian steam yacht) and Launches or just simply feed the ducks and enjoy an ice cream. Step into the cosy lounge with its TV, DVD player, comfy seating and wood burning stove. Gentle light spills into this homely room creating a pleasant and restful space in which to relax. The kitchen/diner is found just off the lounge and is large enough for everyone to congregate and prepare and enjoy good food together. Country-style cupboards with integrated eye-level electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, microwave and dishwasher make for a pretty but practical, well equipped space. Stairs from the lounge take you to the first floor, where there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom is a king-sized with delicate and serene décor. With its additional single bed this room is ideal for a family or for use as a twin room. The second room is a small but perfectly formed double bedroom, cosy and comfortable for sweet dreams. Also on this floor is the compact bathroom with its walk in shower and toilet. Outside, to the front of the property is a large, shared garden with incomparable views of the lake and mountains. With lots of space it’s easy to find a quiet spot for alfresco dining or enjoying a sundowner on a lazy summers evening. Beyond the garden, idyllic Coniston Water will tempt you through the grounds and down to the private lake shore area which is shared with other properties on the estate - this is the place for picnics, paddling and fishing for tiddlers and if you want to bring your own sailing boat, there are jetties to tie up to. Perfect!
