Gwylan Uchaf Reviews

Andrew
We stayed here in 2024 and was so happy with the accommodation that we decided to say again in 2025. It was obvious that the property had deteriorated in standards of decoration and needed many repairs to the property.
Darren
Fantastic location and lovely property. Had a great stay. Just some maintenance bits for the owner to work on. Some external lighting from the drive to the front door, needs repair, as some steep steps are difficult to negotiate in the dark. But, would highly recommend the property.
We had a great stay, the property was beautiful and the area was lovely. The host was great and very quick to reply to us. We would stay here again.
Christine
Lovely property with a beautiful view over the Menai Strait and a short walk from the village shop and pub. The rooms are all beautifully furnished and decorated and there was ample space for all six of us to relax in though if there were 10 people, you wouldn't all get in the same room!. After reading some of the comments here, I checked whether the hot tub was working before booking it. It was lovely to have use of it for the week, and it switched on without any problems but I think the property needs a short, simple set of instructions to enable people to work it properly we didn't have a clue how to switch the jets off and managed it by accident rather than design! TV instructions would be useful too as there were five remotes ... Overall a lovely property in a quiet area.
We have used Sykes Cottages many times in the past. However they have changed their usually good service to a very poor one with communication this time having gone to some automated system meaning you cannot talk to anyone! Very time wasting, very frustrating and we will not be using Sykes again. The house was very well equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was very temperamental with no instructions as was the TV which we couldnt get to work. Why have these facilities if you have no instructions and cannot use them easily or in the case if the TV not at all ! We have paid for it all. The paintwork in the property is tired in places and gives a scruffy impression, it just needs a good tidy up. The bathroom floor upstairs has suffered from wet and has lifted, broken in places. We enjoyed our stay despite the problems and the house is in an excellent position with beautiful views across to Anglesey.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, the house was decorated for Christmas which was a nice touch, beds were comfortable and the views fantastic. The walk to the pub is easy enough. The negatives to mention would be, the dining space is very cramped, it was difficult to move through the kitchen area if anyone was sat at the table. The balcony off of the kitchendining was very slippery. There is not ample cutlery for 10 people and the hot tub only functioned properly in one corner. The walls are very thin and floor boards creaky which did disrupt sleep and there is only 1 TV
Audrey
Stunning views and comfortable lounges. We welcomed the AutumnalHalloween decorations. The dining area within the kitchen was a little cramped, making it difficult to manoeuvre around the table and access the oven, hob and fridge whilst eight of us were seated. A more plentiful supply of cutlery would have been useful, to prevent putting the dishwasher on after each meal. Plastic glassware for use in the outdoor patio area near the hot tub would be an advantage. As noted in the prearrival information the hot tub was too cold to use on the first evening, but we were able to use it comfortably on the remaining two days of our stay.
Slightly unusual layout of the building added a few more trips up and down ... Slightly unusual layout of the building added a few more trips up and down stairs than would have been ideal for a group that had just completed several ascents of Yr Wyddfa Snowdon Accommodation was otherwise brilliant
Amanda
Had a lovely stay in a stunning house with fabulous views. Very well equipped and worked our excellently for a family of 8. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay there again at some point.
Veranda was a bit of a hazard with moss and uneven surface, overall the house had stunning views it was comfortable and well furnished for a family of nine. The house could do with a little TLC in parts and some kitchen cooking utensils could do with being replaced ,other than that it was a lovely place to stay. We all enjoyed the hot tub very much.
Barbara
We had a fab stay BUT a few issues the place is huge and the views just really make it special. We were glad we stayed but a few things did spoil it.Health and safety not a priority. Round the back of the property there was a skirting board or something similar with nails sticking up. I walked outside in the dark and stood on this nail barefoot which unfortunately ruined my weekend as I needed first aid and struggled to walk. The neighbours infrared camera staring at you whilst sat in the hot tub isnt very nice I must admit and the hot tub was freezing cold the first night. 150 for the hot tub seems steep when you only get to use it for one night as we only stayed 2 nights and there were so many curfews with the hot tub too. Bit of a pain. The balcony was covered in moss and needs a good clean not a good look. It was stated clearly we must clean after ourselves but theres no hoover? Overall, its a lovely house, just attention to the finer details needed and if you value privacy, maybe think about 3 cameras both on the property and in neighbours garden too. Also be careful around the property especially with children as there was a dangerous injury during our stay.
This was our second multi generational Christmas at this property. It was clean, warm, comfortable and very well equipped. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas and we all appreciated the effort that had been made to make it look festive . The house has amazing views, the local pub was very welcoming and the short drive to the fabulous beaches of Anglesey or the mountains of Snowdonia make it a great location. Would highly recommend.
Hannah
The house was amazing and very comfy, the only issues we had was the outside lighting didn't work and there was a couple of loose slabs coming down the steps . Apart from that we had a great time with the family.
Christine
This property has amazing views and was perfect for our group of 8 adults and a baby. Plenty of room to be all together, including a huge dining table so we could all eat together, and also space to separate into smaller groups. Hot tub was lovely we used it every day, morning and evening. There were steps down to the property as mentioned in the listing but a strong handrail made it easier for someone with reduced mobility and also a bedroom on the same floor as the living room really helped. Plenty to do and see in the area a great base for a family holiday.
Rebecca
Great location and lovely view. Well situated as so many lovely places to visit with a 30 min drive. Lovely house generally, could just do with a little updating, i.e. new mattress needed in upstairs bedroom and new blinds desperately needed in the bedroom with the ensuite. Overall would recommend.
It says it sleeps 10, which is accurate. However, we only had 8 people staying there and it was very cramped. Definitely more suited for 6. The views are stunning and the property ideally placed. That said, it looks as though it hasn't been touched for the last 5 years with lots of maintenance required. The vast majority of flag stones are loose making going up and down the steps dodgy. 95 of the kitchen lights had blown on arrival and there was no flexibility with getting the bulbs changed. Instead they interrupted our breakfast. The 150 for the 46 hot tub was a waste of money, given it was set in eco mode and only warmed up at 6pm. In a nutshell, Great location, great views, very tired and very cramped. Definitely not with the money and better options to choose from.
We stayed here 2years ago and the property has not changed at all some tlc is required to keep its good ratings. The mattress on two of the beds are getting passed there best. Everything else was good the location is superb. Enjoyed our stay very much
Very large property and plenty of room to lounge. Beautiful view over the Menai strait. Just not a as clean as I would have expected and there was animal deposits on the grass, we had taken our dogs but checked it before they went into the garden. Great spot especially if you have a large group of people.
Suzanne
The house was absolutely beautiful with the most amazing views, it was very clean and had everything you could need in a holiday home, when we arrived on the Friday afternoon we had booked the hot tub and unfortunately it was empty, after ringing the lady who looked after the house we were given instructions to fill it ourselves but this meant it was unable to be used until the Saturday evening, there was also only 2 wine glasses, which for a house for 12 was not good but when the lady came to put the chemicals in the hot tub she did bring us more. The hot tub is nice and big and did eventually get warm but don't book this house for the hot tub as 80 of the jets don't work and was more like an outdoor bath. The other complaint we had was there is a smoke alarm above the oven, I understand these are essential but directly above the oven is ridiculous, every time you turned the grill on or opened the oven door the alarm went off and it was so unbearably loud made cooking anything extremely stressful. We did also report a broken bed, which was broke when we got there, but as no one came to fix it my son and his partner had to sleep in the lounge on our second night as the mattress was hanging through the bed frame. But besides all that the house is amazing, very large and comfortable.
The property has amazing views and is a perfect sunset spot. Kitchen is really well equipped. It would of been 5 stars if it wasnt for the hot tub, most of the jets didnt work and it cost us an extra 150 pounds to use it so Id of expected it to at least be in good working order.
We all enjoyed our holiday. The house was beautifully warm and clean. Fully equipped with everything we needed loved the lay out of the house. The view was incredible. We really didnt want to leave.
Sehriban
Amazing! The views were amazing, the property was amazing! Everything was exceptional.. the house is perfect its great for big groups very spacious 2 living rooms we loved it and cant wait to re visit! The host was also lovely and ver pleasant
Sharon
I and my guests were disappointed for numerous reasons, I made 2 calls to your offices, and no one returned my call as promised, I did eventually contact the owner who did attend the property at my request, if you would like to speak to me ring me as I use your company several times a year but not happy with this one incidentally I paid extra 150 for a substandard hot tub what is my recourse with this?
Fantastic spacious high end accommodation, with plenty of space. We had nine of my family, at one point over the week, with two dogs. The views are breathtaking, and the hot tub, was fantastic, both in the daytime or evening. The only little thing that would need some slight attention are the internal door latches, as a few of them mean that you cannot open the doors properly, and that there needs to be a large wok, as this proved challenging to cook at times, for the amount of people the let sleeps! Other than that, we loved it and our stay was excellent! Thank you
The holiday was amazing, the accommodation was everything we wanted and more. Sadly all this was shadowed by the realisation that there is an infrared camera in next doors garden pointing at our hot tub so we felt spied on all week. Pretty sure this is illegal and owner should report assuming owner isnt already involved.
Antony
The property is in a fantastic position with wonderful views of the Menai Straight and Anglesey. There was plenty of space for the six of us and our small dogs and I think it would be comfortable with 8 people, 10 may be pushing it a bit. The house has nice furnishings but the maintenance has clearly been neglected with illfitting doors and windows, broken steps, broken hot tub fittings and a kitchen that needs a revamp. That said, these relatively minor quibbles didnt detract from the overall experience, which was positive. Before you book, please consider the very restrictive curfew time of 2200 it felt like we were being checked on when one of the property management team had to add chlorine to the hot tub just after 2200 one night.
Claire
Lovely house. Amazing views. Lots of space
Weve now stayed here twice and would highly recommend to anyone else. Beautiful views and a clean house.
Jamie Louise
We stayed in this wonderful home for a week with our family for my fiancs 30th. The house was absolutely amazing and even better than what we expected! Their was plenty of room for all 6 adults and 4 children to have fun and explore! The rooms were all beautifully prepared, and the outside garden and Hot Tub was just what we needed! We was in the ideal location of everywhere we wanted to go including Mount Snowdon
We had a wonderful holiday. The house was beautiful, very well equipped, clean and well presented. We were fortunate to have lovely weather which meant we had a fabulous sunset each night as well as the stunning views. Having the use of the hot tub made our stay super special as well as good fun. The welcome pack and flowers were very much appreciated. The property would benefit, however, from the addition of coat hooks!
Joanne
The most perfect property! Rooms are huge and beautifully decorated. The views are unreal. Nice little area near Bangor. Had the best time. Just a shame check in is 5pm and check out 10am as really booking for 2 nights, you only really get one full day. But that's my only moan! Thank you xx
The house was decorated for Christmas and it looked wonderful on our arrival, a lot of time and effort had gone in to making it look festive and there was also a welcome pack with cakes, tea bags etc. The house itself was perfect for our multi generational family group. It was clean, comfortable, well equipped and a great base for exploring Anglesey and Snowdonia. We all loved our holiday and will have many happy memories of our stay.
Lindsey
Thank you for a lovely stay. It would be useful to have some local informationmap etc there were plenty of tourist leaflets we found in various drawers, but nothing about the immediate area. It took a while before we found the instructions on how to use the oven. There were clear instructions on rubbishrecycling but not which day the collection was. Having a guest guide folder with all this together in one place would be great. Beautiful location and we loved the peace and quiet and it was a very comfortable stay.
The house was a great size with amazing views! We only had a short stay so didnt get chance to check out the local amenities. However we used the hot tub each day which was perfect.
We had a great time. The manager came one day to bring extra supplies of dishwasher tablets and was very pleasant and helpful.
Absolutely loved the house ! When we arrived it was clean and very well presented. Lovely touch having the hot tub and the views are outstanding ! We will be back.
Cherrie
Thank you for our stay. The house, area and especially the views are spectacular. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished and a ideal size for a party of 10. We used the hot tub, and the stunning views from the balcony we didnt grow tired of it. Points to consider rectifying are as follows! 1 The upstairs bedroom had clearly not been changed as there were personal stains on the lower sheet we have taken photos , considering you ask us to strip all bedding to protect your cleaners we felt this was grossly negligent. We changed the bedding ourselves. 2 We put the lights on in the tv room to find they were flickering badly . on closer inspection we found the light fitting was not attached to the ceiling. Only to find previous occupants had already reported the fault. Again unacceptable. We have an Ex fire service employee in our group who was absolutely appalled. 3 The house was very clean except for the kitchen. On taking out pots etc for use we found they had been put away dirty and the cleaners obviously hadnt checked them. 4 Considering the house accommodates 10 we had to go out to buy mugs we have left them for you. We also have added a frying pan to the cupboard. Again mentioned by previous occupants. 5 Being a bit picky. Lack of towels, we had beach towels. No pegs, no washing up bowl, no tumble dryer considering the weather, no plug for the sink. Although you provided a legend for the Smag oven it did not include how to turn them on. Good old Google! Smoke alarm went off everytime we made toast not burnt 6 The chair in the tv room has unfortunately broken, fortunate the lady involved was not hurt. 7 The hot tub cover hinge Is broken, very heavy to lift without. Please accept that we had an amazing week, but feel that the points raised are not acceptable and it is in your best interest to be informed of them. The Bletch Babes PS The fresh flowers, milk and Bara Batin welsh cakes were very much appreciated. PSS one of our ladys left her phone charger behind in one of the bedrooms. if found would you forward it to her please.
Stuart + Sharon
Lovely house with wonderful views and easy access to great walks and activities. We really enjoyed coming back each day to use the hot tub. Overall, we had a great week at Gwylan Uchaf and would happily rebook.
Robert
The property had not been cleaned very well. Especially during the pandemic we would have expected a lot better. For example there was an old pair of socks on a bedroom floor, the upper kitchen cupboards were filthy and alongside the fridge there were lots of bits that could easily have been vacuumed out. The lower half of the garden below the gate & fence is VERY steep and not safe for anyone unless very sure footed. There was no tumble drier and insufficient crockery. We had no means of contacting the owneragent except via Sykes themselves which was not at all helpful. Finally, this holiday was meant to be for 3 families 10 people but because of Covid only 2 families were allowed. Sykes were contacted by email but responded saying the agreed price is based on weekly rental and is not charged per person staying in the property. The amount would have remained the same whether the occupancy is filled or not. Rather than cancel, we choose to allow only 2 of the 3 families, to have the holiday so my wife and I missed out on our holiday.
