Montclair Reviews

Lovely house with plenty of space for a large family group, very well equipped kitchen, sparkling modern bathrooms. Great location for ease of access to Buxton and country walks on the doorstep.
Sharon
Great location , and beautiful house plenty of room we were a family of nine and 2 dogs and there was room for all , just a little problem there needs to be a sign for the cellar and there's a light on the right hand side when you open the door as didn't know where it was and my husband fell down the first few steps as he thought it was just another room but all in all its a lovely property.
The property was perfect for our 3 generation family and it had everything we needed. Ideally located along a quiet road with an easy walk to the town and gardens. The fields and paths behind the property reached by a very short walk & footpath between houses were ideal for dog walking & the children cycling. The lovely welcome pack was very much appreciated. This spacious comfortable & well equipped house was our favourite property so far for our annual get together and we intend to revisit!

We had a fabulous time. The property was superb and had everything we needed. Conveniently located and a nice little welcome basket. The information folder was very well put together and informative. Would definitely recommend
A beautiful home in an excellent location with views across the green at the rear of the property towards Poole Cavern. Tasteful and cosy decor and furnishings. Loads of space for a family gathering. Fully equipped kitchen. Shortage of mirrors in some bathrooms and bedrooms.
'Montclair' was a great venue to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday with our adult children, partners and dogs. A beautiful house in a wide, quiet street with a lovely rural feel due to the country park and Solomon's Temple easily accessed at the rear, but a short walk to the town for pubs and restaurants. We loved the large lounge where we could all fit comfortably around the fire after dinner for games, and the spacious dining room. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed and ample space for the 'catering team' i.e. our children! The snowfall made it even more magical! The perfect house for a large gathering. For owners' view only A few minor gripes. It mentioned firewood for the open fireplacestove, but when my son arrived there was no firewood, and having contacted Sykes was told it wouldn't be delivered until the following week and he would have to get some himself. Which indeed he did, fortunately from a shop nearby, as he wanted to have the fire lit for when we all arrived. Some of the light bulbs needed replacing, mainly in the first floor front bedroom, and the little lamp in the living room seemed to flicker a lot. The doorknob on the downstairs toilet kept coming off, which meant you couldn't turn it or lock it. Some bedside tables would be useful, particularly in the top ensuite bedroom, and there was a lack of mirrors in the bedrooms and bathrooms, something not too expensive to provide. None of these things spoilt our stay, but would have been 100 perfect with them.
Excellent property, fittings and decor. Extremely clean. Only downside to the weekend was that it was a cold January day and the house was uncomfortably cold on arrival. Had to turn all thermostats up. Took about 24 hours to be comfortable. That said everything else was great. A problem with the ch thermostat was dealt after 7pm on the Saturday night. Well situated. We were a family of four generations, but all were comfortable and v pleased. Well situated for Buxton and the surrounding area. Excellent.

Montclair was an excellent base for our gathering. It was spacious, clean and welcoming with everything we needed to cook for a party of 9. It was very near the local country park and Poole's Cavern. While the walk into the town centre is undulating, with a few steeper sections, and several hospitable pubs, on the way, there is also a bus stop close to the house. As a party of over 65s we did note that some might find the flights of stairs rather steep to negotiate if they had mobility issues. The cellar offered both drying space in wet weather and a games room. Sadly our December visit meant we could not try out the seating and barbeque area in the rear garden. We would definitely book this house again.
Very well equipped house that was a great base for the whole family. Only slight disappointment was we were there between Christmas and New Year and celebrated NYE there and would have liked a few Christmas decorations, even just a small tree in the living room would have been lovely. Games room was a bit disappointing as it was too cold to be down there in the cellar with no heating. . Other than this, everything else was great.
Just returned from a fantastic long weekend at Montclair, with family and friends. We had an amazing time. Montclair has everything we could possibly need and more. It's a beautiful house and exceeded our expectations. Owners have thought of everything. The house is perfect for gatherings of family or friends. Would really love to have that kitchen and dining room for Christmas day! Will definitely stay here again if we return to the area.

Great property, fabulous location. I highly recommend
Montclair is a lovely home from home in Buxton. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery and glasses and the living room and dining room were comfortably furnished to an excellent standard. The 2 ensuite bathrooms are clearly newly refurbed and there was plenty of hot water. It's about a 15 minute walk to the centre of town and there are walks with stunning views from the front door. We had an amazing time at Montclair and will definately book again when we return to the Peaks
Beautifully presented property which was as described. The owner was prompt in replying to some last minute questions Thanks! Finished to a high standard and well located this property works great for larger groups looking to explore the local area.

Lovely property, well equipped to a good standard and comfortable. A quiet road, and close enough for either walking into town or up to Solomon's Temple and country park. Property worked well for a mixture of ages. Would happily visit again if visiting the Peak District.

Our extended family of 7 loved Montclair and had a fantastic week here. The location was great, in a quiet area within strolling distance of Buxton centre and backing on to green open space. My 6 year old granddaughter loved visiting the horses in a neighbouring field every day! The house was spacious with new modern bathrooms, really comfy beds and a very well equipped kitchen, which was big enough to relax and chat in while cooking. We did lots of walking including our favourites Solomon's Temple, Lud's Church, the Goyt Valley and Errwood Hall. We also enjoyed Poole's Cavern and the High Peak Book Store and Cafe. A great house in a lovely town we hope to come back soon!

We had an amazing stay at Montclair. Family break and the house was a perfect size for our gathering. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, plenty of cooking and serving options. Lovely welcome basket. No complaints about the sleeping, everyone was happy with their rooms and found the beds very comfortable. Pool table and dart board in the cellar was great for the boys. We found the conservatory and kitchen a perfect central spot for our meals and the afternoon board games. We had brought some of our own however you will find a very good selection of games in the dining room. Beautiful dining room, it was too nice to use! This property is an ideal location for a short or longer break. The centre is a short walk away and Solomons temple is a perfect walk to start or finish the day. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in the Peak District. We had a great time. Thank you Graham
We had a wonderful family break here, house is amazing and luxury items such as beautiful cotton sheets and towels. So very well equipped. Great location in easy access to lovely towns and walking distance to attractions locally plus beautiful walks too. Fabulous. Would book again. The ensuite bathrooms are stunning
Montclair is an absolutely amazing house! We loved it as soon as we walked in. The house was big enough for all 10 of us to be together and spend quality family time. The facilities were top notch and you could tell the owners had put in a lot of effort to make our stay great. The area is nice and quiet and Buxton is within walking distance for food and shopping and a great walk up to Solomons temple is right on the doorstep. Matlock and Bakewell are within easy driving distance and have some lovely attractions and shopping. We all enjoyed ourselves and had a lovely holiday.
