Old Colliery Cottage Reviews

Louise
Very peaceful location within the countryside. Dog walk within 5 minutes. Central location with only 10 minutes to Alnwick and Amble. Accommodation was perfect. Clean and well equipped. As many others have said the bath poses a bit of a challenge each day. A lovely place overall and loved the horses and goat.

Clean, warm house with plenty of hot water and WiFi. Pretty well equipped too. Only one suggestion and this is the mattress in the smaller bedroom needs replacing. Sykes website is misleading as there is no hand held shower.
Myself, wife and Poppy dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely bungalow in a fantastic setting. Positioned brilliantly to explore this part of the world. There is a dog walk 50 yards away on the bend too. The set up of the place works really well, open plan with good size kitchen and living space, double bed very comfy with very good quality cotton bedding. Animals in next field including miniature horses, chickens and cheeky goat just cap off the character of this place. Only downside there is no shower, the stand alone bath is great but not the easiest to get in and out of I have a damaged shoulder. Overall experience was great and a big thank you to the owners.
The only minor criticism we have is we would have preferred a shower to the bath. Other than that the property was excellent and very comfortable.

Jackie the owner of old Colliery cottage was lovely. Very helpful, we had trouble using the central heating, I didnt see the easy control panel, Jackie came across and explained it to me. The cottage is spotless and beautifully decorated. We sat out in the sun until 7pm, the garden is so peaceful, horses running in the field next to us. The goat even came into the garden to say hello. The welcome pack was unexpected, such a lovely touch. I can highly recommend this tranquil, relaxing cottage, so handy for visiting the surrounding towns, villages and beaches. Alnmouth beach was ideal for my dog, parking right on the beach, easy access.Thank you Jackie for a brilliant holiday, wanted to stay longer.
Problems with heating cottage not very warm Only lukewarm water in bathroom ... Problems with heating cottage not very warm Only lukewarm water in bathroom Bathroom very cold No shower had shower head over bath on previous visits Comfortable furnishings Well equipped Good location

Although overall the house is very clean and comfortable, beds are comfortable and plenty of space. The main issue is with the bathroom facitities. Only a bath with a hand held shower is available. Guests staying where average height and the bath is much too small, having to hold a shower over your head when showering, with no shower curtain is not ideal, water ends up all over the floor. There is also a leak in the bath, which also causes a build up of water on the floor, there is also no drain on the floor, we had to put down towels to soak up the water, not very safe. A roll top bath may look pretty, but its not very practical when you dont have a an overhead fixed shower, or a shower curtain. Its a pity because bathroom facilities are important. It lets the place down.

Overall the stay was pleasant however, the neighbours were not friendly and didnt seem to like the fact there was a holiday home next to them. They even lied about us having more than one dog and said our child had been on the field unsupervised but this was not the case. It is also stated on the advertisement that there is WiFi so we thought this would be great as we needed to get some work done and have a 8 year old child however, the WiFi was very unstable and slow allowing only one person to access it at a time and even then it did not work properly. After speaking with the owner we were told to get used to it as the weather affects it. If this was the case it should have been mentioned prior to booking.
