The Heronry Reviews

Allison
The Heronry is a beautiful cottage with fantastic views onto the local river. We were lucky enough to see the heron and the kingfisher several times during our stay. The location of the cottage is ideal for some superb hiking around the local Northumberland land marks, of which we managed to do several. Its within easy travelling distance of Kielder Forest which makes for another good day out. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly without being overbearing which is good and they were very responsive to any feedback or requests we made we had some delicious eggs from the resident hens! During our stay the hot tub was replaced which was completed swiftly and without much hassle to us although sadly the new tub wasnt hot enough for us to try before we left, but this was compensated by the huge bath in the property and some lovely wine from our hosts! There were a couple of areas that could have improved our stay, the kitchen lacked a good multi purpose kitchen knife. This might sound trivial but as we have a very reactive dog we cant eat out when away so cook every evening meal at base. We did manage with the bread knife that was there in a fashion, it certainly didnt spoil our stay. The other thing to mention was the cobwebs in the high ceilings there were quite a few both in the kitchen and above the bed, again it didnt spoil our stay but as a very frequent user of Sykes properties it stood out. Lastly we just wanted to mention the bed, huge and spacious as it was, the mattress was very soft, offering little support during your sleep, this of course is personal preference but something to consider reviewing. Overall we had a great week at The Heronry and would love to return in the autumn to see the change in the picture windows and atmosphere of the place. Wed also like to say an extra thanks to Jared who was on hand during our stay via text and was very good at keeping us up to date with the hot tub renewal process.
We had a lovely stay at the Heronry, stunning countryside views & very peaceful. The barn is maybe a little worn in a place or to but very warm, cosy & comfortable. We would definitely stay again.
Absolutely loved our stay at The Heronry, certainly has the wow factor as soon as you walk in. Stunning views throughout the property, extremely spacious and equipped with everything needed to make our stay comfortable. The grounds are extremely clean and tidy with lots of wildlife to see. We booked this property as close to Gretna where we were getting married. Perfect place to chill and relax. Dog friendly too.
If you looking for a relaxing getaway this is the place. The views are fantastic, the accommodation is hispec. It's a lovely place for couples to spend quality time together.

What can I say, this place is beautiful, peaceful and a wonderful place to come and stay and relax! Close to explore various different areas whether in England or Scotland! We were warmly welcomed, check in and out was very smooth and friendly. The Heronery is gorgeous, the views across the river and fields are so scenic to look out onto every day, didnt close the blinds once to enjoy it every day!
The Heronry is such a beautiful place to stay. The views are stunning, we spotted many varieties of birds, and even woodpeckers sat in the tree right next to the window. We were in awe. Watching the squirrels from the hot tub on our first day was truly something special and just knew we were going to love our stay. Thank you Pauline for the warm welcome and Jared for the lovely communication.
Beautiful place! Beautiful views! I will definitely come back!
When booking for this break, our requirements were simply somewhere peaceful, quiet and relaxing and The Heronry ticked all of those boxes. From falling asleep to the sound of the running water from the brook below, to having a coffee in bed overlooking the gorgeous trees it really did make us feel so relaxed we didnt want to leave. The property is so beautifully decorated and we instantly felt at home as soon as we walked in. We cannot wait to stay again and recharge our batteries!
What a fabulous place, the view from every room takes your breath away, everything was perfect. In Dubai, this would be classed as 7 star, its that good. go find out for yourself. we intend to go again next month.
What a lovely place to spend a few days. The Heronry was modern and unique with the picture windows looking onto the river and the hot tub amongst the trees. We loved it!
The Heronry was a lovely place to stay, comfortable and spacious with sounds of birds and babbling brook. The picture windows in every room looking out on to trees and brook were a treat and almost made it feel as if you were outside all the time. A most enjoyable stay.
