The Old Guard House Reviews

The Old Guard House is a beautiful property however, there are a couple of niggles that would ideally be sorted. We were lucky with the weather but I wouldn't be too keen staying in the cottage in poor weather because of the problems we experienced with the TV buffering. Another thing are the lack of soap dishes in the shower which means bending down to pick up the soap from the floor, no easy task as a 72 year old. The only other thing, when I stripped my bed at the end of the stay, there was a brown paper hanky between the pillow and pillow caewhich probably meant the pillow had been used before. I certainly wouldn't put anyone off going to the cottage as it is tranquil and comfortable and these niggles can easily be sorted and I will probably return.

The Old Guard House is a stunning property and because of that deserves to be looked after properly. There are some cleaning issues dust on the floors and a lollipop stick when we arrived, skirting boards dusty and particularly in the bathrooms. The extractor fans in all of the bathrooms were covered in dust. Pets are allowed and this is fine but glass windows and doors need to be cleaned before the next guests arrive doggy licks, paw prints and handprints is not a good look. The kitchen is well equipped but given that the property sleeps 10 there were only 3 wine glasses and no small tumblers for spirits or breakfast juices. One last observation every evening and most mornings there was loud knocking and banging in the living area there was nothing on the flat roof we all thought someone was up there! If this is due to construction, forewarned is forearmed as the saying goes. It was very disconcerting. Having said all of this we had a week with family and beautiful weather.

What a beautiful house! Very comfortable, clean with good facilities. Views are amazing! Great layout for a big group 10 of us. Bedrooms were very comfy and the bathrooms were of good quality. Very convenient for Whitby, Staithes & Sandsend. Boot Room was a godsend after our beach walks! Would have benefited from a few more glasses and some more serving dishes, but apart from that had pretty much everything we needed.
We loved it perfect for 3 families 9 people. Beds were really comfortable, kitchen well equipped. Office was super helpful when we called about an issue with one of the toilets plumber was with us within the hour. Really nice welcome package tea, coffee, milk, cake, biscuits. Views are stunning, and it's about a private as you can get noone else around, but only ten minutes from everything you need.

Its a lovely cottage , spacious and comfortable and close to attractions, beach etc . Very scenic. Also loved the memorabilia. A few minor niggles. 1. No means to make proper coffee. The welcome pack included a small pack of ground coffee , we actually brought our own but no cafetera ! . A simple push down type would be good . 2. The enclosed garden is not dog proof. There is chicken wire all the way around except for the main gates. Boarder terrier escaped several times through gap in main gates on to the road. Its a simple fix , just add chicken wire to the main gates. Hot tub is great but it would stop working intermittently, so it became more of a hot bath at times. In hot weather the bedrooms can get very hot. There are no fans. WiFi is flakey . Frustrating when watching a film etc and connection is lost or picture freezes . Lastly nothing to do with cottage itself but worth noting that cottage is surrounded by fields of long grasses , very pretty but a nightmare for hayfever suffers.
8 adults and 2 dogs had a wonderful 4 night stay. Beautifully appointed house. Lovely luxury touches. Much more spacious than expected. Gorgeous enclosed garden with spectacular views. Thank you.
Fabulous house. Well equipped. Excellent location Would definitely recommend !!

Beautiful property would definitely stay again. Couple of minor issues but these were dealt with promptly

A good well maintained property, the weather caused a leak in the roof, we had great service on the day. I went to the old guard house 50 years ago when it was the field centre for Minsthorpe school, following that I worked on maintenance for the field centre for the next 5 years. What a wonderful restoration, however I was disappointed that there was no mention of this period in the history of the guard house.

We has a fab stay at the the Old guard house. So much so we didn't want to come home. It was well catered for with glasses and kitchen ware . We was very pleased with the house.
Excellent accommodation. Perfect base for meeting up of old friends from around the country. Very comfortable and spacious.
Excellent accommodation for our family of ten ranging from 3 years to 94 years, plus 2 small dogs. Car is essential. Local inns etc., are friendly and food is good.
A stunning house beautifully furnished. We were a family of 10 spanning 3 generations and there was plenty of space for everyone. The house was very well equipped, with everything we needed in the kitchen and the bathrooms. The welcome treats of tea, biscuits and cakes were a lovely gesture. The hot tub was great and the sun loungers were perfect for star gazing at night. We saw shooting stars. The location is also brilliant, close to Whitby, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay. Will highly recommend this house.
4pm entry and 10am leave are ridiculous. We lost the first day and cant even have breakfast on the last day as the dishwasher had to be clean and empty when we left. ALL the showers were rainfall showers there were no shower caps so noone with long hair could have a shower. The price is astronomical 2k considering we only had 2 full days there.

Beautiful place, absolutely would stay again my one and only fault is that its not very well sign posted for and the postcode given for the property isnt helpful really, many of our party got lost as it was more out of the way, but other than that, utterly amazing
Stayed here with family and extended family and had a wonderful stay. The house was lovely and clean, spacious and the hot tub was a great addition. Beautiful views of the sea all round and enjoyed being able to see the boats, and close to different villageslittle beaches. Had a day out in Robin Hoods Bay I definitely recommend a visit there. Thanks for a great stay!
Wonderful stay in the most beautiful property. Everything you could possibly need and more. Super comfy beds and fantastic facilities definitely one of the best holiday cottages we have ever had the pleasure to stay in. Thank you.
Natasha
Lovely property and information on website accurate. Was worried as there was no pictures of hot tub on the listing , but hot tub lovely . Beautiful views out to see and lovely little pub within walking distance. Property itself was great and met our needs, family group with two dogs.
