The Stable Reviews

Good accommodation in a location convenient for Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District.
Andrea
Nice place on a well maintained complex of similar properties. I agree with a previous review that it definitely needs coat hooks as you walk in no where to hang your wet outdoor gear. Small kitchen, as expected. Very spacious bedroom. Mattress was comfy but the pillows and duvet were flat, and I didnt like the lacy cover and pillow cases, bit old fashioned. You cant beat feather pillows and 100 crisp, white cotton bedding. I couldnt get the shower to work, but there is plenty of hot water for a deep bath, although it takes a while to fill. The handheld shower attachment to the bath has barely any pressure, just a trickle. I didnt particularly notice the noise from the trains, however, the road seems to have loud vehicles very early in the mornings. The overall decor isnt to my preference, but I knew what to expect from the photos. I attempted to walk to the local villageshops, but it was unpleasant cause there are no pavements, however, this is expected in the countryside. Overall it was a pleasant stay. I enjoyed sitting in the conservatory with a glass of wine in the late afternoons.

Thanks for s lovely stay A few things to point out to help improve the property Some coat hooks by the front door for wet coat, Some more cultrey as we only had 3 forks & 3 spoons, The hot tub needs looking at as we had a very loud piecing screeching noise when in use, The bushes on entrance to the hot tub needs trimming back, Also on entrance to the hot tub is a small step, which you don't see in the dark it would help to more visible in the dark The outside light wasn't working

Wonderful would definitely book again

The cottage was lovely, just what we needed. The kitchen is tiny, but very usable. The bathroom was spacious and water pressure was good. The living room was comfortable, although I did get covered in, what appeared to be, dog hairs, after sitting down. I suppose this is inevitable if guests with pets don't have the good sense to keep them off of the furniture. We loved sitting in the conservatory to eat our meals, but the addition of a light in that area would have been nice. The outside light didn't work, so we had to use torches for coming and going in the dark. However, none of these points would stop us from booking the same accommodation again, as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lovely property, in a village location, surrounded by a lovely garden and a veranda were you can see the sheep and rail crossing, lots of wildlife, or sit in the conservatory were the sun warms you. Lounge has a log burner, kitchen with fridge, cooker, microwave and toaster , bedroom with wardrobe and draws, bathroom had the shower in the bath. WiFi available as well. We took our dog for a walk and came across a lovely wood area
A very quaint cottagechalet that is warm, clean and extremely comfortable. This is my second stay here, so that should tell you all that you need to know.
Angela
Comfortable 4 night stay. Ideal size of property for two people. There was a gap in kitchen, next to cooker which was an ideal size for our cat to escape into, which caused a bit of panic, so we had to block this off. Kitchen floor could do with a good clean. Shower and wifi good. Dishwasher definitely a bonus. Would stay again as we love this area and ideally situated for Hadrians Wall.
Andrea
Kitchen so it was dark we reported it and almost immediately someone came to replace the bulb
Could do with some upgrades such as light were dining table is hoover brush and dustpan coathanger general things in kitchen, utensils, cutlery, pasta sieve etc.
We were very disappointed with our stay at the stable cottage on the 010824 brown stains at bottom of the toilet bed side lamps were dusty cooker not very clean and floor was grubby they put a dish washer in the kitchen when a washing machine would have been better . For 2 people we had to go to a launderette to get clothes washed at a cost of 30 remote control for the TV did not properly Will not stay in that cottage again Kevin Hagan
Property was clean and cosy and just what we needed . Peaceful and quiet just what we both needed
The Stable is a perfect retreat to escape the melee of life and simply switch off from the world. The owners are unobtrusive and leave you to it, although easily contactable if needed. The Stable is very clean, comfortable and is well positioned for easy access to The Lake District, Hadrians Wall and many other treasures around. A real Haven that has access to a Hot tub, so after a day of sight seeing, or simply chilling out, you can relax in it and totally unwind.

Everything was ok apart from the lack of coat rack , had the weather been wet there was nowhere to hang wet coats or anything else Also lacking information about local amenities, doctor, dentist, shops etc Small things but very useful for someone new to the area , Also it's the first time in a holiday let without a welcome pack carton of milk and loaf of bread if nothing else otherwise we enjoyed our stay at the barn,
Debbie
This was the second year we have stayed and we will be booking for our next holiday. The only thing I would suggest is it would be nice to have some cushions on the settee as I have back issues apart from that great place to stay
A very comfortable cottage in a picturesque location. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory. We would hope to be back soon.
Christine Frances
A lovely peaceful country location with lots of accessible attractions.
Gillian
Fabulous stay! Cosy cottage, furnished to a high standard, very comfortable, lovely welcoming owner and ideally placed to explore fascinating places including Hadrians Wall. 5 all the way, very highly recommended as has always been our experience over the years we have been booking through Sykes!
Lovely cottage, host was very welcoming and everything was very clean, couldnt fault it.
Ideal spot for a break for two people. Cottage was cosy and clean with everything you would need. Owner was lovely and helpful. Would return again anytime.
Michael
Everything was as it should be. Rural location and only a 15 min walk to Brampton station where there was a good rail service including evenings to and fro Carlisle . Only moan was the water pressure was low and not really practical to fill the bath but the shower was spot on so it didn't matter. I'd certainly return for another stay.
This cottage is small, luckily I was alone with a dog. The decking right outside the door is shaky and you can see bricks have been placed to try provide some support. The handrail in front of the decking is rotten and unsafe, I leaned on it and it moved away from the deck post. The conservatory had a fly paper hanging with lot if dead flies on when i arrived, and it was full of flies, i had to go into Brampton and by fly spray. The new conservatory door had spacers packing the door glass, which was ok for first day, but when rain started it was coming into the conservatory. The living room, bedroom nd bathroom are good enough for 2 people, but the kitchen is bad. It is only wide enough for 1 person, if you are at the cooker and need to open fridge or other cupboard you can't you have to move right out of kitchen to access anything. Ok for 1 person. Location is good. Needs a good clean
Debbie
The stable was very nice and cosy. The owners seemed very nice and gave you the privacy to have a great time. would deffo stay there again
Everything was good, would definitely visit again in the future.
Very comfortable and enjoyable stay at the Stable. Well equipped cottage. Kitchen is very small and tight but provides the features required.
Graham
We had lovely welcome from the owner and the cottage was stunning we will definitely be coming again
Excellent property for a couple. The bed very comfortable, also a cosy living area and lovely conservatory. Don't be put off by the outside fencing etc which needs a little TLC. We had one minor problem and Mabel the owner was around within seconds and sorted it. Mabel could not do enough for you she was an excellent host.
Great cottage, this was my second stay at the property. It has everything I wanted for a short break, comfortable bed, log fire and even a hot tub if Id wanted to use it! I have recommended this property to my friends.
Love the cottage but had to drive to the nearest shops. Otherwise we loved it.
We really enjoyed our stay at the stables and the host was lovely and knowledgeable of local area. Great little cottage converted from old stablesbarn. Quiet location which is ideally suited for base to explore borders, Hadrian's wall and Roman ruins, Kielder forest and the Lake District all within an hour's drive. We would definitely go back there and are already thinking about rebooking.

Had an amazing stay the Cottage was great would definitely recommend staying there. Thank you!
The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and cosy, the problem was the hot tub. We only booked this cottage because of the inclusion of a hot tub. My partner works in care and she was looking forward to spending plenty of time in the hot tub with the jets on to relieve the pain in her back and legs. We attempted to use the hot tub on the Sunday afternoon, the water was hot, only one or two of the of the jets were working, very disappointing, pretty much useless, there was one filter fitted the other was discarded on the grass besides the hot tub, there were a few valves not fitted and we found them in the cabin adjacent, the control panel was worn and some of the the buttons unresponsive. All in all the hot tub was in need of a very good clean and a lot of maintenance and repair, to be honest I think it would be more cost effective to replace. The cabin by the hot tub was also in need of a lot of maintenance and repair. I think you should remove the hot tub from your description of the accommodation until it is in a good state of operation as this is tantamount to false advertising, its not right to say there is a hot tub if it is not working.
Edward
Fantastic accommodation in a great location and very reasonably priced.
James. David
The only thing bad was the shared hot tub and it needs a lot of maintenance to bring it to good working order
Philip

Alison
Cottage is small but comfy. Bed linen clean. Towels somewhat small for showerbath. Heated towel rail. Easy to chat to key holder and pick up leave key. Property suited our needs for 3 night stay.
Claire
The Stable is lovely and cosy. Massive bath as well as a shower. Yes you can see the trains go by but you can barely hear them even from outside. The conservatory was lovely to sit in when the weather wasn't great, before moving to the living room and lighting the log burner. Kitchen has everything you need. Perfect location for exploring Hadrian's Wall.
Andrew
Very pleasant owners who were very helpful and kind. The cottage was really nice and comfy and had everything we needed.
A fantastic cottage for 2 adults. Small and cosy. Very clean and comfortable and well equipped. Host was very helpful and friendly. A great base for exploring the local area and not far from Carlisle. Local Co op in Brampton 5 mins drive away. Would recommend.
Very small living quarters the pictures make it look bigger. Bed was suppose to be a double but was more like 4ft very cold accomadation and my partner had to sleep on floor.Miles away from anywhere and the area is a hole.
