The Wren Reviews

Sharon
We had a lovely 5 night stay, very clean though out. And everything we needed , pet friendly and safe for our fur baby
Louise
Excellent lodge in a lovely location. Spotless and equipped with everything you need.
This accomodation is warm, beautifully decorated and extremely clean. It is well equipped with everything you will need. A good place to relax and enjoy the countryside, plus the Marina Cafe for coffee and delicious homemade cakes nearby.
Eileen
Fantastic place for a quiet break, situated in a beautiful area with the marina facilities on the doorstep including a great little cafe. We loved the clean modern facilities, just the right size for a couple and their dog. Only grumble was the couch, my word it was not made for lounging! It was the only hiccup in what was a fantastic little lodge. A great welcome with a lovely welcome gift we would certainly visit again
Christine
Really enjoyed our stay at this lovely accommodation. It was peaceful and quiet. The cafe on site was great and we had some lovely walks with the dog around the marina.
Thank you for a great short break. The lodge was perfect and as advertised. The marina is immaculately kept. Lovely cafe on site. Everything went really smoothly from booking through to our stay at the lodge. Thank you.
Rodney
If you are looking for clean well appointed peace and quiet you have found it. the only snag was the patio door was difficult to open hence the four star rating not five
Excellent location. Clean, comfortable lodge in canal basin within easy reach of National Trust and English Heritage properties.
A lovely, well equipped lodge in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The perfect place to relax and unwind.
Maureen
We really enjoyed our stay at the Wren Cottage. The cleanliness of the property was first class and everything we needed in the kitchen was spot on. The only downside for us was no dining table outside. Otherwise full marks for everything.
Had a lovely stay and staff were very helpful. If you want a peaceful break, this is the place. The property was was very well equipped and there was a useful information folder for activities etc. There was also a lovely welcome note and box of biscuits on arrival. I shall certainly be back.
Our second stay at Whixall Marina, and standards are as high as ever. We really appreciate the kindness, comfort and cleanliness of the whole site. Excellent cafe & peaceful surroundings Keep up the wonderful work!
Rebecca
The cabin was perfect had everything you needed it was very clean and comfortable! We would definitely go back!
Confortable wellequipped lodge located in pleasant, quiet environment. Very private as situated some distance from the next door lodge. Ideal for anyone wanting a restful break. We hope to return.
If you are looking for a relaxing quiet holiday this is for you. Have been twice now and enjoyed each time.
Really lovely stay, very peaceful. The lodge was immaculate with absolutely everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Absolutely 5 star holiday, thank you so much for a wonderful stay, absolute peace and quite and cabin had everything we needed, will definitely be returning again.
Well equipped, everything you need. Apart from a few cobwebs, but to be expected in the countryside, it was very clean and fresh. would definitely stay again. Very peaceful, and ideally located for exploring the area. The only concern was the bedroom fire door closer, needs adjusting. It slams shut instead of closing gently the last couple of inches ,and caught the back of my ankle.
Lovely setting. . quiet and off the beaten track.. bed very comfortable.. just what we had wished for...
We had a wonderful relaxing holiday at the Wren everything you needed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The lodge was cosy and welcoming surrounded by the beautiful Shropshire countryside making it an amazing place for a much needed break. We will definitely be returning in the near future. Thankyou for the lovely biscuits very enjoyable.

Beautiful lodge, owners have thought of everything to make stay there comfortable, perfect modern decoration, clean, warm and welcoming, thoughtful welcome pack and all the basics to start holiday. Location just what we needed, plenty of walks and places to visit, we're already planning a return visit. Thankyou to Louise and team. Margaret & Francis
Accommodation excellent, clean, comfortable, just perfect, oh I nearly forgot PEACEFUL. Best week for a long timei
Wonderful lodge by the canal clean and tidy with everything you could want even a barbecue and coffee maker well done. Does get hot on sunny days though no opening windows in living room. But a well deserved 5 star rating.
Mrs Linda
Lovely property, very peaceful, clean, everything you could need for a nice relaxing break even a dog towel and dog bowl. The cafe on the marina is great too and very convenient for a breakfast, lunch or snack. We thoroughly enjoyed getting away from it all in this lovely lodge.
Nicholas
The Wren was an amazing place to stay. Clean, well equipped with a modern feel. Beds were comfy, shower great and it has good space inside and out to relax. It really was a nice place to be for the week especially with our small dog. The location is nice and quiet with good walks along the canal. On site the marina has a cafe too which was excellent. Nearby villages had good shops. Hope we can stay there again. Thanks again to the owners.
Sabrina
2nd time to Whixall Marina and it wont be our last! The accommodation was well equipped and clean. Shower was just amazing! I enjoyed the absolute peace & quiet, apart from the odd moo and the barge going past. Just sitting on the deck and relaxing. My frenchie enjoyed the grounds and going to the cafe. They do a mean full English! Will be back soon!
We really enjoyed our recent stay at the marina The Wren Lodge. We were allowed to bring our pet and enjoyed spending time outside on the decking watching the narrowboats and being close to nature and beautiful scenery. It was the perfect place to unwind, I spent a lot of time on the canal on my paddle board. We had some nice walks and we managed to visit a few places nearby. The lodge was very clean and comfortable, very modern in design..t The staff were very helpful too.
Fabulous stay in the wren, so clean with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. Great for dogs too ,we felt like we were very private no passing public just the canal boats coming past occasionally. A great base to stay with lots of places to see , we enjoyed walking along the canal paths too.

We loved our week at The Wren, including being serenaded by wrens! It's a comfortable lodge with everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing week. Especially loved the terrace and bbq for special evening meals. Lovely to find provided a leaflet with local walks which we enjoyed, especially the route to and through the local nature reserves. The breakfast at the marina is a must. Brilliant location to get away from it all, get back to nature and be able to see the sights in Shrewsbury, Llangollen, Chester and Liverpool.
Pauline
We love the Wren and it's location for a relaxing break. Dog friendly, with canal side walks and a great Whixall Marina Cafe. The lodge has everything required for a self catering holiday and is modern & well maintained. This was our 2nd visit to the Wren and highly recommend it. We, including our husky were very pleased to discover the new path to Dobson's Bridge providing access to the canal walks. Thank You
Wren Lodge was beautifully set out it was home from home, kitchen had everything you need for preparing meals, decor of lodge was lovely and exceptional clean and comfortable. Just missed having iron and board which would of fitted perfectly in bathroom cupboard. Perfect for peaceful getaway to switch off.
Lovely cabin, well appointed, extremely clean and great peaceful location with walks straight from the door.
Absolutely first class holiday home. Really well equipped and spotless. Also ideal place to get away from it all and watch the narrow boats go by. Perfect.
Diarmuid
Lovely cottage cabin in a lovely location. Stayed here a number of times while working in the area and will definitely be back.
Joanne
Had a wonderful holiday here. So peaceful and relaxing. The lodge was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, very well thought out, with an abundance of lovely kitchen essentials and top quality extras. The decking area is perfect for a cuppa while watching the passing canal boats or stargazing after dark. The dog wasn't forgotten, he got a cosy blanket and bowl. My dog is a good boy but doesn't always get on with other dogs. He likes his own space and he got plenty of it, as the lodge is in a private field, and the one other lodge is pet free. We enjoyed the canal walks from the charming marina, guided by the excellent walking leafletmap provided. There's loads of dog friendly things to do in the area. Plenty of National trust sites etc. We enjoyed Pontcysyllte aqueduct, Llangollen, Beeston castle and the Wroxeter Roman city. Thanks Sykes, your properties never disappoint. I'm just trying to decide when to rebook!
Gordon
A quiet quiet and peaceful retreat.
