We had a lovely stay at Top Lodge. Very peaceful. The owners were very nice and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a peaceful place to stay. Hot tub was a bonus! It was nice watching the chickens sheep and horses.

Amazing views. Very peaceful. We enjoyed seeing the chicken and sheep wandering about. Accomodation was great, comfortable and clean. Kitchen had everything we needed. Hosts were friendly and approachable. If you are decide to stay here, please follow the owner's instructions and not the sat nav, it's then really easy to find. All in all, we had a very relaxing stay, thank you.

We have just got back from a 4 day break in this lovely lodge. The lodge was clean and lots of space and privacy. The hot tub was an added bonus were we spent our nights chilling. This is a lovely place to stay i would highly recommend and would definitely return.

Fantastic family getaway perfect for toddlers and relaxing! My wife and I recently stayed here for a week with our 23monthold granddaughter, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The hosts, Simon and Sherie, were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. They truly made us feel welcome. Our granddaughter was absolutely delighted to see the horses, sheep, and chickens right outside the door it was a daily highlight for her. The grounds are lovely, and we were free to wander and enjoy the great views, even spotting deer on the property. After busy days exploring, it was wonderful to come back to the hot tub and patio, which offer a fantastic view over the Severn. We also loved having an excellent local pub nearby for a relaxed evening meal. Highly recommended for a peaceful, familyfriendly break with wonderful hosts and beautiful surroundings. We hope to return!

Where do I start? Arrived to a very dirty lodge. We had spent 2 hours cleaning the property ourselves. Asked for the hot tub water to be changed as it was full of grey debris that had come off the headrests. We go on hot tub breaks every couple of months and have done for the last couple of years. Never had this trouble before. Avoid at all costs! Only good thing about the place was the view.

Very nice place with great views from the apartment. Everything what you need is there. Met the owners, great and helpful guys. If you like animals, there are sheep, horses, chickens and dogs on it kids can go out and meet them at owners permission. 1hr 10 mins from Brecons, 2030 mins from Newport, a bit more to Cardiff, under an hour to some nice beaches. Would recommend to stay and would stay again myself.

A very warm and comfortable place to stay despite the cold, wet weather! Wonderful views towards the Severn Estuary.

We had the most wonderful stay at Top lodge at this past weekend. From the moment we arrived, it truly felt like a home away from home. It was warm, comfortable, and well maintained. It was the perfect place to relax and switch off. The hot tub was spotless and clearly very well cared for, which made it even more enjoyable. One of the highlights was the farm itself. The animals were so friendly and a real joy to see each day. Especially the dogs and the Chickens! it added something really memorable to the experience. We stayed with our three dogs and couldnt have felt more welcome. The enclosed garden area made us feel completely at ease knowing they were safe. Its not always easy travelling with multiple dogs, so we really appreciated how comfortable and accommodated we were made to feel. The hosts were nearby if needed, but completely respectful of our space, which we really appreciated. The only small suggestion wed make is that a few coat hooks in the utility room would be a helpful addition especially after muddy walks! Overall, a peaceful, cosy escape with such a welcoming atmosphere. We wouldnt hesitate to return and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

Lovely location, very peaceful, beautiful views. Accommodation was cosy, nice beds and pillows. We had a nice welcome pack and we were also given some rashers of bacon from the pigs bred on the farm, unfortunately the chickens werent laying in the couple of days we were there. Plenty of places to walk the dogs in the surrounding countryside. Just a few minor negatives, the outside lighting could be brighter, and the net curtains within the living room need to be replaced.

The cottage was perfect for our needs. Location is fabulous as we needed to get to Newport for a conference so it was 15 mins drive. The farm and animals are really cute. The views are amazing! Watching the weather come in over the estuary was sensational! The beds are very comfy and I loved the view from my room. The open plan lounge was comfortable. I found the recliners perfect as I was recovering from an operation so they were very comfortable. The hot tub was fantastic. Recommend using at night! Our dogs had a lovely time on the local walks. The hosts were terrific!

Lovely lodge, in a beautiful location. Hosts were really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble they even took the kids to collect the chicken eggs which was a great experience for them. Hot tub was luxurious and the views were incredible. Could have been a little more clean and looks a bit tired inside lots of marks on walls, kickboard under oven falling off etc but overall a lovely holiday and the welcome hamper was a lovely touch too. Kids had the best time saying hello to the horses, sheep and chickens and really enjoyed all the space around the lodge. Lots of local walks which was great for the family and the dog. Would go again

Lovely week at the farm with our 5 year old son, very peaceful, beautiful views and well located for trips out to cycle along the railway line from Chepstow to Tintern Abbey , Taff Trail, and Forest of Dean and trips to Cardiff and Barry Island. Our son enjoyed meeting the dogs, helping feed the chickens and collect the eggs.

There are positives and negatives we experienced at Top Lodge. The view, the hot tub, the on site animals, the fridge freezer and the beds were great. There was no WiFi and an attempt to provide an alternative solution didn't work for us and we felt we couldn't ask for anything else although we had suggested a mobile wifi so we paid for a service we didnt receive when the owners would have received compensation for the week long outage. The oven was very dirty and the seals poor...mentioned by previous guests and nothing done about it. The baking roasting trays were greasy and dirty. Again mentioned by other clients previously and nothing done, it's a few to replace and with such a fab fridge to purchase some lovely local food the cookware and utensils to cook anything were extremely limited. Overall we had a good time and explored the places we wanted to explore.

A Cozy Retreat Worth Repeating! I stayed here at the end of November 2024 and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience! While I rated it 4 stars, just a few small improvements could easily bump this to a 5star stay. The accommodation was cozy and wellequipped overall, though the kitchen could use a little TLC. A few more oven trays and matching glassware, plus a fixed rubber seal on the oven, would make it even better. The hot tub was a standout featureperfect for relaxingbut a simple addition like a coat hook for towels or dressing gowns near it would be the cherry on top. What truly added charm to the stay were the friendly, freeroaming chickens on the farm. Their curious antics were delightful to watch, and they even contributed to a generous welcome pack on arrival with delicious eggs such a thoughtful touch! I would absolutely return. The accommodation was comfortable, worth every penny, and a great way to experience the beauty of South Wales. With a few tweaks, it could become a perfect countryside getaway!

We absolutely loved our week staying at Top Lodge. The owners are on site, very welcoming, friendly, helpful and informative. The listing states the wrong address and driving directions. The owners have informed Sykes but it hasn't changed. The post code is NP16 6LZ. The What3Words is magnum.intersect.panthers There were a couple of maintenance issues that the owners did their best to resolve and the main bedroom would benefit from a chair to put clothes on and a mirror to enable us ladies to do our hair and make up. There are a fair few scuffs and marks on the walls but it doesn't deter from the overall comfort and enjoyment. We had our dogs with us who also enjoyed their stay and especially the close proximity to Wentwood Forest. We had a lovely welcome pack waiting for us and we found the information pack to be very helpful. The beds were so very comfortable and my husband hated leaving the reclining sofa behind! All in all we loved the place and look forward to returning one day.

We had a lovely stay at Top Lodge. Property was clean and comfortable and Hot Tub was in great condition and we LOVED the huge fluffy towels. But the best aspect of the property in our opinion is the animals. We were greeted by the horses as we drove up, and the chickens soon welcomed us too. The sheep were also close by and like to be pet. There was always an animal in sight which we loved. There's plenty to do within driving distance, and we especially enjoyed our visits to a local dog freindly pub which was less than 10 min drive away, Ego at The Groes Wen Inn. They have some great value deals available, especially on a Wednesday.

Absolutely amazing break away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Top cottage was everything, we needed. Very clean and welcome pack was very much appreciated. The weather was beautiful all week and the views were amazing. The hosts were very nice and it was a pleasure talking to them. Thank you so much, will definitely come back.

Such a beautiful and peaceful setting with stunning views from the cottage. A perfect base to explore Monmouthshire and beyond. Extremely comfortable living area, with handy downstairs loo, and comfy beds with soft mattress toppers. Well equipped kitchen, and we especially appreciated the welcome basket containing their own hen's eggs, Welshcakes, milk, tea and coffee. The highlights were watching the sun go down from the wonderful hottub after a day exploring, the frequent visits from the friendly hens and the sheep in the field nextdoor, watching the owners' horses pass our lodge and being able to have our own dog stay with us in a safe environment. The owners were so friendly, recommended local pubs, helped us fix a minor problem with the hottub and chatted about their very much loved animals, whilst respecting our privacy. We arrived in foggy conditions and got confused with the directions the Glen View sign was difficult to see in the fog around the bend, need a NEON one please D and I would recommend a mirror in the bedroom for drying hair. Other than that it was perfect and we loved every minute of our week's stay. Thank you so much <3

Top lodge is amazing for a quiet rural get away with the family or, as a couple looking for some quality time. .. Me and my daughters absolutely loved all the animals horses, sheep, chickens and pigs they were all very friendly and curious and we always seemed to have a chicken in our arms

Really enjoyed our stay at Top Lodge. Peaceful with wonderful views. The only niggle was we would have liked hand towels as well as bath towels and the kitchen was not particularly well equipped. Both only minor niggles. On the whole it was a great place to stay.

We had a great stay at Top Lodge. Everything in the lodge was as described and the hamper of local delights with eggs from the owners' chickens, Welsh goods and the basics of tea, coffee, milk and sugar was welcome after the drive. Dogs are made very welcome and can be walked in the owners' large field. We enjoyed the Hot Tub on the patio and the comfortable beds. A local dog friendly pub, Woodland Tavern, is a very short drive away and serves great food book in advance if you want to go for Sunday lunch. It also does a take away but is closed Monday and Tuesday. If you like woodland walks with your dog, these are also a short drive away, as are castles and a Roman town all dog friendly.

Fantastic hosts, made us all very welcome. Nothing was any hassle for them to accommodate our requests. Would definitely recommend to family and friends if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and just become one with nature.

Absolutely fantastic stay! Comfy beds, beautiful scenery, a relaxing hot tub, helpful hosts. It was wonderful! The only thing that I would say is that it may not be suitable for highly reactive dogs as due to it being a working farm and stables the property owners, their children and their dogs regularly walk past the property there are lovely big glass doors and a low fence that mean that you can see them. Our dog is only slightly reactive, so she barked and we distracted her, but it may not be suited to someone whose dog would be really distressed by this.

We had a lovely long weekend stay at Top Lodge visiting friends in the area. Views were stunning from the house. Lovely surroundings in a very nice part of Wales. Great place to take your dog to as there was place for them to run around in and meet the friendly chickens and sheep. Hosts were really friendly but not intrusive. Recommend.

Top Lodge is on a private farm, lovely to see the horses and sheep. Lovely views to the bridge and the Estuary. Conveniently placed to get to Cardiff and the other attractions. Top Lodge was fairly clean but needs a little TLC. Bulb gone in main light in 2nd bedroom, was mentioned in previous reviews, no bedside lamp in main bedroom so had to be careful of sloped ceiling when on way back to bed. No Tea towels, was mentioned to hosts. Could do with bigger TV and toilet roll holders. Curtains to long especially over the kitchen sink.
