Wayside Cottage Reviews

Hilary
Wayside cottage is in a lovely location in the village, short walk to beach and coastal paths. However, the cottage is very much in need of updating and TLC and the once lovely garden is very overgrown.
George
Comfortable, well equipped and spacious property. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Beautiful mature garden is a plus. Excellent location for local exploration and further afield visits.
Perfect location for access to Coastal Path and beautiful beaches. Cottage cosy with all we needed although a hairdryer would be very useful. Our third visit and we may return again in the future.
Nice and clean accommodation with a great location.
Jennifer
We have just spent a lovely week at wayside cottage the property was lovely and warm, clean and tidy, beds were comfortable as were the sofas. end of Nov so didn't really use the garden but it looked neat and tidy would be lovely on a summers day all in all a great property.
Amanda
We had a really lovely stay at Wayside Cottage. The cottage was comfortable and really well situated to access beaches and pretty villages in Northumberland.
A clean and comfortable large house, with a wellequipped kitchen except for a sieve! and an amazingly comfortable bed we only used the main bedroom. Seems to be recently decorated. It's not modern and trendy, but neither are we, so it was perfect! It could do with coat hooks and a boot rack, and the bedroom curtains let in a lot of light not a problem in October, but I think it might be annoying in midsummer. But otherwise, no complaints. Dogwise, the garden wasn't secure, and the rules were a bit stricter than we've encountered before not on furniture, not upstairs, but I guess we've fallen lucky in the past with how lenient other places have been. We would happily stay again.

Having stayed at the property several times I was sorry to see its deterioration. It has obviously suffered inside and out from disrespectful dog owners. The lovely garden has been neglected and is completely overgrown which is such a shame. Wayside cottage is in a great location but it is in need of updating, care and attention.
We have stayed at Wayside Cottage twice before. The location is fantastic. This visit we noticed that the garden really needs some maintenance, its way too overgrown. It has never bothered us that the cottage is a bit dated as it is comfortable and clean but now, some of the kitchen ware needs updating there are chipped mugs and plates. Just small things but easy to put right and would improve anyone elses stay.
Matthew
Lovely stay as always, fab location, practical cottage and comfy beds. Thank you!
Richard
The property is like going back into my childhood which I found lovely. The bonus of a lovely garden and closeness to the sea. Home was spotless and linen fresh and white. Thankyou
Lesley
The property was very clean. The heating worked extremely well which was fortunate as the house was cold when we arrived. Although rather dated the house was generally comfortable. Security light wasnt working so needed phone light to use door key and a large doormat to protect the carpet would be helpful we used a large dog towel on the floor as would a large plastic boot shoe tray. Better instructions for the oven needed ! Nevertheless , we had a lovely week and thought the house was good value for money.
On arrival the property hadnt been cleaned and there wasnt any clean bedding. We also didnt have any heating in the lounge or hot water. The maintenance company were able to provide bedding and did offer a clean the next day. It took 2.5 days to sort the heating but we were without hot water for 4.5 of our 6 days in the property and are still waiting for recognition of the impact on our holiday despite returning home yesterday. Despite the outstanding rating this is a no frills property which would benefit from a new mattress in the front bedroom and an update of cutlery. Having stayed there on numerous occasions this is disappointingly not what we are used to
Louise
Super cottage in a great location. Extremely clean & tidy on arrival.
Very enjoyable stay in an ideal cottage. Only problem was the weather which noone can do anything about! Hope to return in the future.
Kathleen
We were very comfortable in Wayside Cottage and would recommend it to anyone. It was clean, comfortable with easy parking and an enclosed garden for our dog which gave us peace of mind. It's very convenient for the pub in High Newton and The Ship in Low Newton. The Golf Club House at Embleton also did good food after a lovely coastal and inland walk. Lovely walks from the doorstep Craster in one direction and Beadnell in the other. Hope to return sometime.
Joanne
A lovely cottage just a few minutes walk from outstanding beaches. Spotlessly clean on arrival and a super garden that our dogs really enjoyed exploring. Would definitely stay here again.
The property is a little dated inside but on the whole clean and comfy. There is a nice enclosed garden with the cottage, again just needs a little tlc. High newton is a wonderful base for exploring the area and wayside cottage is ideal and i would happily stay here again.
Wayside cottage, was an ideal location to all surrounding beaches, walks and other villages within the vicinity we did miss a local shop for basic requirements and ended up going to Seahouses to do a basic shop. We had a slight issue with basic cleanliness on some of the glasses and crockery, but otherwise a very, comfortable, warm and cosy cottage I'm sure we will be visiting and staying in this area again, in the not too distant future.....beautiful part of the country
Lovely short break. Wayside cottage was a little dated in places which we were aware of by the photos but it was a clean warm cosy retreat. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Would return.
Wayside is in a beautiful area one of our favourite places and benefits from the great location, good sized rooms and an enclosed garden. The decor is a bit dated and compared to other properties we have stayed in in the area was missing a few basics eg hairdryer, oven gloves, spare rubbish bags etc These were minor inconveniences and we still had a lovely time there
Amanda
This is the second time we have stayed in Wayside and it didn't disappoint. Location is 5 and the cottage itself is just honest and lovely. Yes, it's dated but it is clean, comfortable and cosy even though its spacious. Perfect when you have 2 children and a dog. The garden is magical for the children and really well maintained. The Ship, Football Hole, Beadnell Beach, Low Newton with its amazing view of Dunstanburgh Castle are all in easy walking distance. Everything else is an easy drive. The only thing it lacks is a tumble dryer but who wants to do washing on holiday anyway
Andrew
Good cottage. good holiday.nice place
Hilary
Comfortable and practical, good location. We have been before and already booked a week next year.
Some local brochures for guidance and a welcome pack would have been nice
Lovely, clean, well equipped, spacious house. Lovely garden, great position for beach and sightseeing. The 4 of us 2 couples felt relaxed and chilled all week.
Really lovely cottage , spacious , really clean , everything you needed was ... Really lovely cottage , spacious , really clean , everything you needed was there plus more we had a fab holiday thank you Excellent
The cottage was perfect for our needs, very clean & well equipped. We had a wonderful two weeks thank you.
Well appointed, spacious and warm. Excellent location for taking on local coastal walks. Log burner is a welcome addition and brings a homely feel to the cottage. Garden is a wonderful space
Lovely house. Excellent stay as always.
The property was perfectly adequate and wellequipped. The cottage was extremely well situated with regards access to local attractions and proximity to the more major roads.
Excellent accommodation, very clean and roomy. Large enclosed garden very useful with dog, also good for barbecue or just sitting. Joiners Arms virtually next door, beach at Football Hole about 15 minutes walk, beach and Ship Inn at Low Newton about 20 mins walk. Nothing to criticise at all.
This was our third visit to Wayside Cottage and we love it. It&rsquos comfortable, warm and spacious with a beautiful garden filled with birds. The location is fantastic, near two of the most amazing beaches and pubs you&rsquoll ever see. We&rsquoll be back.
The cottage was ideally situated for us. A relatively short walk from the beach and the nature reserve and located approximately half way between Seahouses and Alnwick. The cottage is very well equipped with all the facilities we needed. We found the beds comfortable and the bathroom facilities good. We loved the garden and all the bird life in it. The Joiner&39s Arms is almost next door and provides excellent take away fish and chips. This was our second visit to the cottage this year.
