Coombe Street Cottage Reviews

Lovely house in a great location, with easy access to the town and shops. The property is well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. One thing potential guests should be aware of is the noise from the pub next door. We expected some typical pub noise, but on several nights the music was much louder than anticipated and continued into the early hours, including music being played from the pub building from around 330am. Unfortunately, this made it very difficult to sleep and had a significant impact on our stay. We raised the issue with the pub and also contacted the booking company during our stay, but were advised that noise originating outside the property was not the responsibility of the property owner. While we understand this position, we feel the listing would benefit from clearer information about the potential for latenight noise so that guests can make an informed decision before booking. Overall, this is a lovely, wellequipped house in a convenient location. However, we would not recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet stay.

Stayed here several times. Garden now safer for children & dogs. Probably our last visit as stairs too difficult for older guests.Suggest bedrooms at back best for light sleepers as pubgoers roudy until past midnight & deliveries etc around 6am. Many happy times at this house
Lovely accommodation right in the middle of Lyme Regis, Homely style of property with all the rooms and facilities you would need including a lovely courtyard garden. Only negatives were a broken firebrick in the log burner meaning that couldnt be used and a fridge freezer with a door water dispenser that couldnt be used because when the container was filled with water it leaked straight out from the front causing a wet floor.
Lounge, kitchen and dining room very small. Stairs very steep which wasnt mentioned in the listing. Garden very run down. Bedrooms were variable in quality, one being enormous and one tiny. Very overpriced for March. Position for town good.
Really lovely! Well equipped, cosy, comfortable and clean. Absolutely brilliant location, just five minutes' walk from the seafront and with shops and bars even nearer. Perfect for six of us. We enjoyed the wood fire and appreciated the welcome pack. Everything was wellmaintained although perhaps a fan in the bathrooms might be a good idea? Would love to stay here again

A lovely cottage with a traditional feel, well stocked kitchen for cooking breakfast. It is in the middle of Lyme Regis which we loved, particularly being opposite a good pub, the close proximity of the brewery tap room and a short walk to the sea front. The compromise of being the middle of things is you might get a little noise at night but it wouldnt put me off booking it again.

Lovely cottage and great location! Had everything we needed but the kettle only worked intermittently so you might want to check replace that. Would happily stay there again
Lymebay holidays never fail. A very comfortable place to stay with an excellent hamper on arrival. The decor and furnishings were of top quality, and clearly a lot of thought has gone into making this holiday home feel special. The private garden was a lovely space, filled with plants, flowers and nice garden furniture. We liked not being on the ground floor, as this street does get busy and noisy and is opposite a pub. The house itself felt spacious and wellspread out with quiet rooms at the back of the property. The parking permit was an extra bonus. Those with a pram or mobility issues may struggle with the steep staircase and the distance from the car park.
We did enjoy our time in Coombe Street and the location of the property was ideal for getting to the beach and museums. The garden was lovely and accessing the flat was easily done. The parking permit was a great help! On the whole the property was clean and comfortable, however there were aspects of it that disappointed. Many of the dishes when first taken from the cupboard were greasy or had food stuck to them. There was a lot of food debris around the cooker and a number of items I'd have expected to be found in the kitchen weren't supplied. We also found the flat very cold and the noise from outside was quite noticeable especially on quiz night at the pub. We were also glad not to sleep in the bed in the master bedroom another night as it creaked and sagged terribly! Overall, a nice flat with a great location but a few let downs.

Wonderful cottge, beautifully decorated, very comtortable. Great location. Close to everything. We had the best stay. Will definitely be back.
The property is ideally situated close to beaches , restaurants etc. It is deceptively spacious, and accommodated 8 of us comfortably. We would book again. The top floor toilet for 3 bedrooms 6 people is slow to refill after flushing, so just needs some attention.

Lovely cottage. Great location. Would definitely like to stay again.
We had a lovely week and the property was nice and central. We were disappointed with the garden particularly the garden furniture. The safety of the garden needs further explanation for dogs and children there was a significant drop and a small pond not mentioned in the description. The pub was also very noisy until the early hours of the morning on some occasions
This house has good bedroom sizes but the lounge is far too small for 8 people, we were a party of 6 adults and found it difficult to get comfy in the lounge. There was no hair dryer or iron, and the towels were small and thin and not suitable for a weeks stay, I did email on these points. There were not 2 rubbish bags for 3 collection days and no info about how to recycle and there was no instructions for anything and TV was difficult to use as it need a fire stick and Ive n ver has one of these.
Fantastic property. Highly recommend.Very comfortable. Excellent mattresses. Newly decorated and garden refurbished. This is our third stay here with extended family and hope to stay again next year. Just one thing.... The front door yale lock needs urgent attention. We were nearly locked in on a few occasions! A safety risk.

We had a really enjoyable and relaxing stay here. I was a little concerned about a couple of comments re maintenance, but the whole property has been recently redecorated throughout and is in excellent condition. All of the rooms are larger than they appear in the photos and there was plenty of space for eight of us, and the level of equipment was impressive. The cottage was warm and cosy, and the beds comfortable. Of course there is a pub opposite, live music on the Friday night and a NYE party, but the noise dies down after 11 and did not worry us. The owners are having some work done in the garden which we did not use and hopefully they will upgrade the whole outside space. Just a few commentssuggestions all minor things The front door was sticking due to the wet weather and we struggled to open it from the inside on a couple of occaisions this needs addressing urgently the locks and key safe could do with replacing also The TV remote was not working properly and needs replacing As I said all minor things and easy to rectify, but we would absolutely return here. Thanks for a great stay!

A very enjoyable family weekend in Lyme Regis. Spacious house which was well maintained and very clean in good location close to the beach and the town. Private courtyard with property which we enjoyed using. The kitchen was well equipped. Good instructions with cottage and bonus of a parking spot in the nearby car park. Opposite a pub and you are located in the hub of the town but not overly noisy
Very happy with the service from Lyme Bay. Combe Street Cottage is in a great location however, felt that the cottage was looking very tired. Paint was chipped and grubby. Most of the window blinds were broken and not all of the windows openedclosed completely. The kitchen floor looked filthy and the floor boards definitely need attention. Bed linen very tried and pillows had definitely seen better days. Stayed at Coombe Cottage a couple of years ago and loved it, hence the second booking. Regrettably won't be booking Combe Cottage again, in it's current state which, is a shame as its so well situated

Dear Sykes, We stayed last week, and were astonished to find a cleaner had opened the front door and was standing across the street. There was a timid dog inside, which could have runaway. The reason she was there a day early was because on your website, it states bookings are for one week. However, it appears that you had only booked us for six nights! Do you even offer that as an option? Even if I had made an error in this, why did no one get in touch to check? Very poor service. The house was okay, although there was no booklet of instructions for oven bins etc. Again, annoying. There was a broken blind and a light bulb in the down stairs bedroom, and the garden was a bit of a mess. To add insult to injury you actually charged me an extra 260 for one night, although one nice gentleman said it would be 20. I am shocked to have to pay that much as you dont rent out your cottages for one night only, so you would not have been renting it out on Thursday anyway! This is disgraceful profiteering, and I think a compromise could I have been reached. I am asking you to reconsider and refund me the 260, less the 20 I was told. Your current good name will not last if you treat your guests so harshly, Your sincerely, Stephanie Groves
A nice house with good bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Hugely disappointing garden. Overgrown and unloved. Couldnt leave our dog out there unattended.
Christine
Lovely cottage in great location for the beach and restaurants, BUT not a peaceful week due to early morning delivery trucks and pub noise in the evening. Band playing till very late on the Saturday night with drinkers spilling out on to the road and even on our doorstep !
Katharine
We loved the cottage, very comfortable although a couple of the beds were certainly firm! It was great being so close to the beach and town but possibly a little too close to the pub which had a live band Friday and then a DJ playing House and Drum and Base on Saturday! Perhaps something in the description about it being a lively end of town! It would have been helpful to have a bit more information on the house, we had numerous messages about being careful on the stairs but nothing about the TV which wouldn't work consistently and nothing about what to do with the bed linen. We enjoyed the courtyard and sat out a lot in the evening, but the furniture probably needs a bit of maintenance soon! Lyme Bay holidays was very responsive to the phone call we made about the TV and the booking process was easy. We had a fantastic weekend and the House was a big part of that, many thanks.
Patricia
A large bushtree fell down in the garden blocking access to the outdoor space which was the main reason we regularly book the cottage, nothing was done about it for the few days remaining of our stay, we would have been more than happy for workmengardeners to come and fix it whilst we were there.
Lovely flat, full of character. Decorated and styled to a high standard. Great location. Would return for another stay.
Lovely house we have stayed here for two years in a row now. Nice living room and dining room, and a lovely garden. All four bedrooms are a good size, and the bunk beds are big enough for adults. Perfect location in the centre of town, although the pub over the road can be a bit noisy. Not noisy enough to stop us booking for a second year though!
Caroline
Another lovely holiday at Coombe Street Cottage that really copes with the size of my family group. Thank you for the extra set of keys Shiah made it much easier than last year and the splendid welcome pack and soap in the bathrooms, thats what I always forget! I dont think I would change a thing
My mum fell in the shower which becomes very slippy when wet I think a bath mat ... My mum fell in the shower which becomes very slippy when wet I think a bath mat should be supplied in downstairs bathroom I also think grab rails in both bathrooms for ease of getting in and out of bath and shower would be a good idea Upstairs almost all the rugs move and are slippy under foot and are starting to curl up at the edges so are becoming a trip hazard The bed in the back bedroom cracks and creaks when you move so it wakes you up House is in a good position
Lovely holiday home just a few minutes from the seafront and shops. No big hills to climb as the cottage is in the heart of the town. Well equipped and very comfortable. Two keys would have been useful as we accidentally locked our one key inside but Lyme Bay Hoildays quickly sent us out a second key which was great service. With only one key we always needed to go out together. Highly recommend Coombe Street Cottageb and its delightful attractive small garden .
Carolyn
3rd stay at this property. Very comfortable great location.
Patricia
It doesn't mention in the brochure that this is an upstairs apartment over a shop, it is called a stone cottage, could be misleading for someone with mobility problems.
