Hollowgill Barn Reviews

What can I say about Hollowgill barn. Certainly, one of the best holiday rentals I have ever stayed in. It ticked all of my boxes. There were useful YouTube shorts on how to use appliances and helpful information from the owners before we arrived, no question was left unanswered and they responded so quickly. The lane up to the barn was easy to navigate with a low suspension car if you are able to raise your suspension which we could. The barn itself was spotless on arrival, the layout was well thought out with the bedrooms on the lower floor which really helped with sleeping we stayed with the heatwave week of over 30 degrees. The games room was a fantastic touch and we used it many times over the week. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you require if you want to cook big meals. Fresh eggs can be ordered directly to the barn too. There are plenty of walks to do directly from the barn and Sedbergh is only 3.9miles across the fields on the Pennine Journey. The location is perfect for peace and tranquility in such a picturesque setting. We enjoyed coffee alfresco each morning just soaking up the 360 degrees views. My husband found the electric charger for the car worked like a treat. It is untethered, so you will need to bring your own cable. Would highly recommend and we will be booking this rental again in the future.

Thank you for a fantastic stay! We loved every second of our time at Hollowgill Barn. As a group from Glasgow & London we have never experienced such attention to detail in the amenities. From picnic blankets to stair gates, to giant giraffes which our toddlers loved and the coffee machine which the parents very much appreciated! The owners have thought of everything! There were 2 toddlers in our party and the location was perfect for exploring nearby attractions. Can thoroughly recommend the Lakeland Maze farm park in Kendal and Beatrix Potter world at Windermere. Sedburgh has some lovely restaurants we highly recommend the Dales! The beer garden at the Black Bull was also a welcome pit stop on our adventures! The communication from the owners and Sykes has also been super impressive and clearly taken feedback on board with making sure specific information around access to the property is shared in advance. Thank you again for a superb stay! We will definitely be back!

Wow! By far the best cottage weve stayed in. Location, location, location! A mile walk to Cautley Spout. The cottage is surrounded by hills, streams and farmland. The cottage itself is fantastically equipped and very large! We made lots of use of the games room and we were able to cook meals for six very easily. I highly recommend this accommodation.

We had an amazing weekend at Hollowgill Barn celebrating a birthday with friends! Great facilities in the barn it had everything we needed, the living space was set up perfectly for a bigger group to be able to sit together in the evenings, lovely walks nearby which our dog loved and great communication from the owners prior to our stay! Driving to the accommodation down the private road one of our cars got stuck, so just some advice for future visitors who have cars which have lower suspension to be very mindful, as the road was quite uneven! The owners were super helpful when this happened and we managed to get the car sorted quickly Thank you so much for hosting us!!! We had a great time!
Great property. Beautifully finished. Great facilities pool table a real hit. Hot Tub under dark sky was amazing. Log burner a real bonus too. Kitchen very well equipped and fantastic coffee machine. Walks are quite literally accessible out of the door. Would definitely come back again.
This place is amazing, the owners are great and on hand if you need anything. The pictures dont do it justice. We only came back yesterday and have booked the same dates again for next year.
A truly fantastic stay for all the family, we just couldnt fault the barn one bit. We have never known such a well equipped facility, it had the most luxury bathroom items, kitchenware and general necessities. The location is great and we really recommend Sedbergh although small for the pubs etc, the black bull inn especially. We made memories that will last forever, of which the barn played a huge part. Thank you!
A beautifully appointed, comfortable and super clean property in a stunning location. The owners had thought of everything you could want in a holiday rental except a Yorkshire Pudding tin, now soon to be delivered and everything was high quality. The house is very remote and quiet. There are no footpaths along the main road so we tended to drive somewhere and park up near one of the many public footpaths nearby to walk the dog. That said, the gardens are large and well enclosed and our dog loved having slopes to run up and down and his own little steam to paddle in The views are stunning all around the property. Ive only knocked a star off for maintenance as we had no plug sockets working on the bedroom floor and the built in coffee making wouldnt work. However, these issues were communicated to us prior to our visit and are soon to be repaired. Overall, a fantastic place for a quiet break, with open space to walk and relax.

Hollowgill Barn is a fantastic place to stay, the barn has everything you need including the lovely hot tub. The views are amazing too. The eggs from the farm along the road were also really lovely. This was our third time staying at Hollowgill Barn and we will definitely be back.
A beautiful barn in a beautiful location. Every creature comfort you could think of even some we wouldnt have thought of. The boys especially enjoyed the games room, couldnt get them out of there sometimes, and the hot tub was amazing and a fantastic touch. The location was perfect for walks, we walked from the barn to the top of Cautley Spout and over the Howgill Fells and down into Sedbergh. In Sedbergh we had some amazing food in the Blackbull Inn, which we would highly recommend and then walked back to the barn. At the end of the day that was a 15 mile walk of some of the most spectacular scenery wed ever seen. Everybody in our party agreed that Hollowgill Barn and the location was a 1010.
Hollowgill Barn is superbly equipped and furnished to a very high standard. Perfect for family and dogs. It is in an idyllic location and watching the stars at night, from the hot tub, is a perfect way to end each day.
Samantha
Fantastic property in stunning location loads of space we had a great holiday and would love to come back
Wow we dont know where to start upon arrival to the barn we were met with the most amazing views and sheeps the barn its self is spacious and had everything we wanted and more. The walks especially the one to Sedbergh were challenging but very enjoyable. The fresh hen and duck eggs were delightful as were the grounds and the hot tub. With the plan of moving to the area already in our minds this stay at hallowgill barn firmly cemented this. Love the area and already miss the views we will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Third visit, so. ......... Owners have continued to enhance the property over this period. We await announcements as to what the downstairs enhancements are going to be this time. Superb property, facilities & location. Hopefully we can make it four visits.
Debbie
We had the most amazing week at Hollowgill Barn. It was equipped to the highest standard. Lots of space too. A beautiful place in a beautiful setting. The Pool table was a massive hit, would have liked a seating area in there but it didnt spoil our fun. It was so clean and had everything we could possibly need loved it Thankyou
Angela
Beautiful cottage in the most lively of places surrounded by hills , fields and lovely sheep . Plenty to do in the cottage games room with table tennis and pool . Plenty board games to play . We took the dog on a walk from the cottage which was lovely too . The hot tub at the end of the day was so lovely . Everything was clean and well maintained. Everything you could need for cooking extra large wok , fondue set , lots of utensils! Even had tea , coffee , dog chews , biscuits , cooking oil etc to use !! All in all it was a very relaxed stay with absolutely everything you would need I cant think of anything they missed out on! 5 stars all round
Lauren
The house was amazing! It had everything we needed for a fantastic week! Hopefully will be going back soon!
Samantha
Modern with a rustic feel. Warm, comfortable and clean. Everything you can think you will need. Views to die for. We hired a private chef and there was so much counter space and a lovely dining table to serve on. Overall a perfect stay
Beautiful and extremely comfortable accommodation with everything at your disposal. Great location for walking, and close to Sedbergh with excellent shops and pubs. Would highly recommend.
Good to see that youd taken previous feedback on board regarding the wall at the top of the track as this is now given as a caution on booking information. Shame we didnt have this on our first visit as the repairs to our car were almost as much as the holiday itself. The property itself is perfect however and left us wanting for nothing.
Wow what an amazing property! We had a fantastic week at Hollowgill barn. Lovely walks on your doorstep and plenty of things to do a bit further afield too! The property itself was beautiful, clean and so well thought about facilities were amazing and brilliant quality and there wasnt anything lacking! We especially enjoyed the brilliant coffee machine, games room and hot tub all appreciated after long days out exploring! Very safe for our furry friend too he loved having some space to roam! We were very sad to leave but hope to be back thanks so much for having us!
Tracey
Great stay. The barn is big and beautiful. Has everything you need in the kitchen and the games room is a great bonus. Thank you.
A beautiful property with excellent facilities, thank you! Our four legged friend loved exploring the enclosed garden, as did we with a game of cricket! High standard of cleanliness throughout the property. We would definitely return and loved our stay.
The hallowgill barn was a beautiful place in the perfect location! The views from the barn was amazing! Especially enjoyed the hot tub and games room came in handy on the rainy days! The only fault we could all think of was the drive down to the barn from the main road, it was very uneven and had big rocks in the grass we was worried it would damage the bottom of our cars also when it was a cold night and we wanted a little fire but some of the wood was rotten and was only 6 logs for 4 nights. Also the coffee beans had finished after only making two hot drinks but apart from that enjoyed every minute! Would definitely like to book again or recommend it to others!
Christopher
Amazing place to stay, modern living in an age gone by setting. So quiet but only a 10 minute drive in to Sedbergh village with it's lovely shops. We would recommend a visit to The Dalesman Inn, great food and drink in lovely surroundings. Would definitely rebook
Our second holiday at the barn. We loved it again, so comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed, the addition of the games room this time was fantastic and the extra shower room and boot room for all the messy footwear and wet clothes. We so love the location, being able to walk & run directly from the barn is superb, and its so quiet and peaceful. Also not too far by car to get to the lakes for a bit of water sports too.
Literally no faults at the barn. Everything had been thought of, and more! I took a slow cooker with me only to find there was one already there as well as a bread maker that I didnt have chance to use. We wanted for nothing. The location was spectacular and it was a joy to have stunning walks right on the door step. Such an inviting place to stay for a week that flew by.
We had a wonderful stay. Literally the best UK stay that we've done. The barn was so beautifully finished with no corners having been cut. All excellent quality furniture and everything that you could possibly need in the kitchen. A cupboard full of board games, outdoor games, books to read. It was so comfortable with lots of blankets to use too. It was so clean and all of the bedding, towels, blankets etc smelt of lovely fresh washing. Have already recommended it to everyone I know and we will definitely be back.
Perfect week in stunning surroundings! This is our 2nd visit, the 3rd is booked and we are planning a 4th for next year. Would highly recommend this property, it has everything you could ever need and then some.
Alison
We had a fantastic stay at Hollowgill Barn. It is in a lovely area accessible to lovely walks. The accommodation is lovely & the hot tub is a lovely addition to be able to relax in too. The games room also provides extra things to do. Everything was perfect & we will be booking to stay again.
We had the pleasure of staying Hollowgill Barn. The pictures do not do it justice, it is an absolutely incredible barn on such beautiful land. It is not mentioned how enclosed the garden is but it is properly secure. It sits on around 1 acre of gorgeous hillside land and it has secure new fences and chicken wire all around. This was perfect for our dog as he had the whole place to explore. We loved watching the sheep every day and having dips in the hot tub with the gorgeous views. The barn has been converted to such a high standard and the addition of the games room and lovely front room meant we were always happy there no matter the weather. Thank you.
Sandra
We enjoyed our stay over Christmas but would have liked to be able to turn the heating temperature up or down ourselves. We would have stayed in the hot tub longer if it was warmer but it cooled down very quickly. We had to clean the drawers and hoover the main bedroom as it was dirtyhairy. We had to wash the bedding in the main bedroom as it smelt stalesmokey. The main bedroom quilt has a stain of some kind on it. The wardrobe downstairs in the hallway had a drawer which was full of slippersflip flopsclothing so was not able to use it. When we cleaned the main room floor we found under the table was very dirty and under the settee when we angled it for watching tv. The hoover did not keep its charge to be able to hoover one room, we had to charge it continuously which is not good enough when taking pets or in general. We still enjoyed our stay and it is in a lovely setting but just wanted to offer constructive advice.

The place is amazing, we go three times a year to cottages and this one beats them all by far on every aspect. We will be returning and would love to know when games room is completed so we can stay at that time. There is nothing bad about our stay only a few suggestions.. 1. The wine cooler fridge was not switched on and we could not see how to do that. 2. We also could not find how to switch the big outside light on at hot tub. 3. The hit tub temp was always 38 when we got in, would be nice a little hitter to be set at 40. 4. Bedding had to be removed and placed in blue IKEA bags, but we could not find these anywhere. These are minor suggestions, and would not stop us returning and we recommend the cottage 100 to our friends. Beautiful place, area and facilities. Thank you.
Beautiful barn with excellent quality facilities our second visit will be back
Beautiful barn in a very secluded location excellent.
The barn is very well equipped with everything you could need. The owners were extremely helpful with tips about the entrance. Informing us when there was a unexpected power cut and keeping us updated on when power was likely to be returned. The barn is extremely clean and comfortable with good laundry facilities. Would definitely recommend this accommodation.
Sandra
Had a great week. The barn was very spacious and comfortable with everything you would need provided. Loved the hot tub pity the weather didnt cooperate. Lots of great walks.
Rosalind
A great location and a lovely spacious property to stay in.
Very well and highly specked property, enjoyable stay
Sallie
We had a lovely week away staying at Hollowgill Barn, well equipped and very comfortable, everything we needed, and the Hot tub was a bonus, in it every night. The area where the barn sits is beautiful and the river just down the track was a win for our dogs, also the enclosed garden, no escapes. Would recommend this accomodation to anyone. Fantastic.
