Luke's Hoose Reviews

Lukes Hoose is a great location right in the heart of Ambleside. As long as you dont mind not having parking and a very short uphill walk to the property if offers great views and a peaceful retreat. It also benefits from an open fire in the living room! If you need help from Sykes cottages during your stay though, dont use their Whats App chat service, they dont manage it properly. By the time I got any kind of response wed already left the property!
It would be helpful to have a small sign directing you to Gale Terrace, as the postcode takes you to the lower terrace and its not easy to find. No details were provided to help locate the property, and we were unable to reach anyone when we tried to call for assistance on arrival. The dishwasher was turned off, so we were not able to wash the dishes. Parking was an issue, as it is expensive in town. Good location overall.
It was difficult pre arrival to book in and register the dog as the booking reference wasnt recognised on Sykes site. Arrival was good and the house is ok warm and fairly well presented. Not totally clean bedroom dusty, small mirror not clean, bathrooms a bit shabby. For the price I would have expected better decor, more amenities we arrived late no tea or coffee at least to cover first night ran out of loo roll on second day, cheap toiletries it was all a bit low grade to be honest.
Lukes Hoose is in an amazing spot in Ambleside, with stunning views. Unloading and loading was challenging but we expected this thanks to the property description and reviews. Late check in during Winter with no heating on. A baby in our party and house is large and took ages to warm up. Good if housekeeping could put heating on low during very cold periods. The property was ok clean. A deep clean is needed. The oven and grill were unusable. No grill rack present, oven shelves, trays, door and interior are caked with a build up of grease, food, rust. The oak worktop at sink needs attention. It is rotting and harbouring germs, bacteria. The owner needs to invest in new bed linen, pillows, quilts, protectors. Bedding is old and stained and not very pleasant though beds were comfortable. Only 1 pillow case supplied per person, requested more as we like 2 pillows. These never arrived. Ambleside is a great base for exploring the Lakes and the town has many shops, pubs, restaurants.

It was a lovely cottage with amazing views, in an excellent location to all of Amblesides facilities. Highly recommend

Overall happy with our stay, great location and good facilities in the cottage. Disappointed with stairs being damaged, this is quite dangerous and a big trip hazard. Additionally would be beneficial to have the front garden separated from neighbours like other properties to enable dogs to roam free without passing into the other boundaries and annoying neighbours.

I spent over a month in this property, between the 17th of Nov to the 20th of Dec, and found it to be one of the most comfortable bases to explore the lakes in over 6 years of visiting the southern area. The views from the front windows are unsurpassable, informing me each morning how to proceed in negotiating a fell. I came here to walk, climb, hike, and fulfil some bucket list summits, I also wanted peace and quiet to read and write. This property is the perfect base to explore the fells, with only a 20 second incline to reach the front gate if able bodied. Just far enough from the town centre to experience peace and quiet, yet close enough to take advantage of onthe doorstep access to walks, shopping, and good food. The house is warm, well equipped, and well placed. The smart TV, internet and central heating were fantastic, and the mattresses were amongst the most comfortable to date. Thank you for providing one of the most comfortable and well positioned places to stay in the South Lakes. I have visited many, and Luke's Hoose will remain a firm favourite. I will add that putting the bin out is no mean feat, so would recommend this property to those who are fit and able bodied. And during storm Darragh the top floor front bedroom window rattled enough to wake the dead and was very cold. However, this is a small criticism, and I would recommend this property to all. I absolutely loved my stay here and will never forget it. Apologies for forgetting to remove my lichen and moss collection from the dining room table! Thank you.
Lovely property in the centre of Ambleside. All you need for a relaxing stay Nice and clean with comfortable beds Excellent views to the west and over the village which is a minute from the front door to the nearest shops and pubs etc The sat nav will guide you to the street towards the rear of the property where there is a little lane which takes across the row of cottages towards the gate that gives access to the front door We struggled in the dark to find on arrival it but much easier in daylight hours But once in we couldnt fault the property My wife particularly loved the kitchen and dining room There is also a front garden with table and chairs to sit out if the weather is good We will be returning in future
Great location and lovely house! Worked well with a young family and would recommend coming back. Dropped off luggage easily and long stay parking wasnt too far away.

Second time staying here and just wonderful.
Main problem was the parking permit which was not there and although Jackie at Lakelovers provided a solution thanks you were great i can see that this issue had been raised before. Given the location ,which is great for the views, you really need the permit as the unloading for a family of 5 plus infant was torture. House not as clean as should be and sheets were clean but stained. The clothes horse was broken so we had to cobble it together dont agree with tumble dryer heavy heavy on power. the house is lovely but not suitable for babies or dogs as the garden is a gravel area an not secure.
There was no parking permit at the property. Do the red rubbish bags go in the wheelie bin? Thanks.
Sebastian
A nice place. Warm and comfortable. It's a bit awkward not being able to bring the car to the property. The car park ticket was out of date which I would have hoped would have been checked.
Love the lakes Lukes house is lovely but really needs a good clean there is ... Love the lakes Lukes house is lovely but really needs a good clean there is cobwebs behind the beds lots off muck on the striking boards bed mattress need changing very dirt dont look like the stairs had been hoovered for a long time maybe get a cleaner who nos how to clean
Great location & facilities however it was let down by the cleanliness.
Loved the view from this house. Close to all amenities.

Superb location with fantastic summer sunsets.
We had a really enjoyable week's stay at Luke's Hoose. Whilst the cottage is centrally located in Ambleside because it is above the main street it is quiet and the garden furniture in the front garden provides a lovely start and finish to the day when the weather is fine. An ideally located cottage with excellent facilities and one that we would like to return to. For us the parking was not an issue.
Great cottage and location

A lovely stay in Lukes Hoose. Gorgeous cottage with gorgeous views. Well equipped and clean on arrival. As mentioned, it is a walk up a steep hill for loading and unloading but this cannot be helped and with two young children and a dog, was certainly good for the leg muscles. The property could benefit from a welcome book to include information such as where to find the WiFi code, how to use the heatingappliances, local recommendations etc. However, this was not detrimental to our stay but could help future guests. Overall, an amazing holiday in a gorgeous cottage,

We loved our stay at Luke's Hoose. Yes there is a steep hill to move luggage, but once there, it is in a perfect location. Really close to the town, walks and very quiet at nights. The property is well kitted out and well looked after, it had everything we needed. The drop of a star was mainly because the bathroom in the middle floor had not been cleaned when we arrived. The shower tray, sink and toilet all looked untouched from previous guests, which wasn't the best welcome. We cleaned it ourselves on arrival and got on with our holiday. Our only other comment was that it said leave out the rubbish on a Thursday morning in a red bin bag, but there were only clear bin bags in the house. We left it in one of these, but there did not seem to be a collection. I wasn't sure if these signs were outdated! Apart from these niggles, we did have a wonderful stay and we would love to come back again.
Lovely, comfortable house with great views over the top of the town and the hills beyond. Watching the sun change the colours on the hills as it rises in the morning is fantastic. Loved our stay.
Jeremy
This is an ideal and quiet location for anything from easy walks to tough hikes straight from the door. The cottage was clean with comfortable beds and a decent shower along with a wellfitted kitchen. Small downsides from our particular experience slow wifi and limited tv a couple of cushions would make the sofas more comfortable no cooking condiments no black refuse bag was provided and both waste bins were quite full already.
